Mayo on Christian Barmore: “We’re Getting Close”

For a Patriots defense that has had some issues stopping the run in recent weeks, it sounds like it’s possible they could potentially see a key player return at some point on their defensive line.
Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was asked on Monday about the health of Christian Barmore, and the prognosis sounds positive.
“We’re getting close,” said Mayo, who was asked if the defensive tackle had cleared the hurdles the head coach had discussed earlier in the season following Barmore’s blood clot diagnosis.
Behind the scenes, Barmore’s been spotted around the team but his status had been in question, with not much being said about him after the veteran opened the year on the non-football injury list.
Fortunately, it sounds like we could see him at some point. Which is good news after the Patriots allowed 167 yards rushing to the Titans during their 20-17 overtime loss on Sunday, with 128 yards coming at the hands of Tennessee running back, Tony Pollard.
Mayo said after the game that their run defense and tackling remains an issue.
“Defensively, again, leaky run defense,” said Mayo. “There were times where it goes back to fundamentals. We spent a lot of time talking about the Xs and O’s, but I thought the tackling still needs to improve.”
Getting Barmore back would certainly help.
