Here’s what New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett had to say during his press conference with the media on Monday June 10, 2024.
On the experience of his rookie year and how cool it is to know what’s going on Wednesday for Tom Brady:
“Yeah, man. No, definitely a special moment for a special person. So many great stories and memories with him. And we know when I was here and then also through our friendship has grown. I’m excited for him. He deserves everything. Wednesday will only be a sprinkle of the things that he deserves. And I’m sure it’ll be a special day.”
On how he felt today’s session went:
“I think we had some good back and forth. We had two two-minute drives, and we got stopped on one, and then the next one, we came out on top on the two-minute drive. So just good competition, clean operation. It’s the first time we really did some two-minute stuff. So really, the operation and the understanding of our mindset of what we’re doing, I think we got that accomplished today. And we got another day to springboard that and push forward with it.”
On his initial impressions of Jerod Mayo as a head coach:
“Man, it’s been awesome, man. His energy. He obviously played this sport at the highest level. He understands that competitive nature that he wants to breed. It’s fun to come out here, work with him every day, and see the enthusiasm that he gives off to the players, the coaches, the staff, and his overall message. It’s been a lot of fun to work with.”
On the fact it seems like Drake May is improving the more we see him and if he sees the same thing:
“Oh, definitely. Tremendously, man. Every day, he’s gotten better. The good thing about it is not like, ‘Oh, I got it right now.’ And ‘I’m not thinking about…’ He’s just constantly trying to find ways to get better, making some nice throws out there, and you’re seeing his progression come alive.”
On if there’s anything specific he wants to share:
“I mean, it’s not specific. I think he’s doing a good job of… He’s been here for, what, three and a half weeks, a month? And he’s made tremendous strides, not only calling the plays, footwork, throwing the ball, and I guess his overall understanding of this offense.”
On the situation of competing for reps and the value it gives him:
“In all of those situations, I never thought of myself as not being the guy. I go in every situation as if I’m the starter, no matter what the reality is or the situation is. I let the chips fall where they may at the end of it. And that’s all I can do is worry about myself.”
On if he learned any of that from Tom:
“I mean, honestly, that’s been the nature of my career, dating back to high school, man.”
On what he’s seen from Ja’Lynn Polk:
“Oh, man. I think the good thing about a lot of our young guys is they’re understanding what we’re asking them to do. Polk, for example, he’s making so many plays in the red zone today, big, strong catches. That’s what we need him to do. He’s starting to do that on a consistent basis. His level in this offense is going up.”
