The Patriots started things off on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft by finally making a selection on the offensive side of the football, taking Troy University center Jake Andrews with the 107th overall pick.
His selection adds some much needed depth on the offensive line, which was expected to be an area the team might have potentially targeted earlier on in the draft. Instead, a myriad of trades and teams moving ahead of them ended up seeing them address some needs on defense, but looking at the film, Andrews certainly seems to be a solid addition.
He’s incredibly strong, coming in at 6’3″, 305lbs and holds his own against some of the better defenders in college football. He’s really fluid and has good balance, and does a great job of not letting guys get too inside on him.
He’s also quick off the snap, and also fairly athletic for someone his size, showing impressive speed when it comes to both getting downfield and moving around inside.
The 33rd Team called him, “a technician” at the center position, citing his toughness and nastiness as two of his best traits. Certainly sounds like the perfect fit here in New England.
