Social Media Reacts To Devin McCourty’s Retirement

Another core member from the second half of the Patriots dynasty has elected to call it a career.
On Friday, veteran safety Devin McCourty announced over Instagram his decision to retire from the NFL after 13 seasons.
“I’m officially retiring from the NFL. It has been a great ride,” McCourty said in an Instagram video with his brother, Jason. “I think it’s always tough to come to the end. This whole offseason has been so much back-and-forth for me mentally, but ultimately I think this is the best decision for me, for my family, and my career.”
The 2010 first-round pick out of Rutgers played in 205 regular-season games for the Patriots (fifth most in team history), starting all of them and totaling 982 tackles and 35 interceptions.
Over his career, McCourty was named team captain 12 times, started in five Super Bowls, winning three championships. He is just one of eight players to play in that many Super Bowls and has the fourth-most postseason starts in NFL history with 24, the most among all defensive players.
A two-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection, McCourty is in exclusive company with Pro Football Hall of Famers Rod Woodson and Ronnie Lott as the only NFL players to earn both at cornerback and safety.
Toward the end of his Instagram announcement, McCourty noted he is unsure of his future. However, with his brother Jason working for NFL Network and his recent appearances on CBS during the playoffs, maybe a media career is next.
