After five seasons with the New England Patriots, guard Joe Thuney is taking the next chapter of his football career to the Kansas City Chiefs.

On Thursday, Thuney agreed to a five-year $80 million contract to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

A third round pick in 2016 by the Patriots out of NC State, Thuney helped the team reach three consecutive Super Bowls, winning two.

During his Foxborough tenure, Thuney never missed a game, starting all 16 regular season and ten postseason games from 2016-2020 and was named to the Patriots 2010’s All Decade Team for his efforts. According to ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss, Thuney became the first player in the history of the NFL to start in the Super Bowl in each of his first three seasons.

On Friday morning, Thuney said his final goodbyes to the Patriots and their fans in a statement shared over Instagram.

Check out his full message in the posting below.

Despite the loss of Thuney, The Patriots offensive line remains a strength heading into 2021. Over the course of a week, the Patriots brought back Trent Brown,Ted Karras, and David Andrews.
