In the upcoming weeks I will breakdown the individual positions and the addition and subtractions from those positions.  This week I will post the roster as I know it.  I stripped all the Unrestricted Free Agents from the roster and will add them back in if they re-sign.  I kept the Exclusive Free Agents and Restricted Free Agents they are likely to keep.

College All Star Games

The college all-star game schedule has been severely shrunk due to COVID-19.  The granddaddy of all-star games the East-West Shrine game has been canceled.  Last season 98 players from this game played in the NFL.  Patriots Michael Owenu and Michael Pinkney played in this game last year.

It’s official the NFLPA Collegiate all-star game is cancelled also.   TE/DE Rashod Berry played in the NFLPA Collegiate game last season.

The Senior Bowl will be played on Jan 30th at 2:30 EST and televised by the NFL Network.  The real important part is the week of practice leading up to the game.  Bill Belichick will be there scouting out prospects.

Three other lesser Bowl games will be played:  The Tropical Bowl Jan 17th; Collegiate Gridiron Classic Jan 21st and the Hula Bowl Jan 31st.

Pro Football Focus top Offensive Lineman

Joe Thuney #6 amongst Left Guards, not tops but pretty good.  Not worth the Franchise Tag or highest contract for a guard.  Could be interesting how this plays out with a depressed Free Agent market due to lowered Salary Cap.

Michael Owenu was #10 for Right Tackles. Quite the accomplishment for the rookie.

Pro Football Focus Top 100 Unrestricted Free Agents

Thuney # 14 but he wasn’t the top OG on the list

Newton # 34  Why???

Andrews # 68 PFF projects him to re-sign for 3yrs, $18 M, $5 M fully guaranteed at signing.

White # 84 PFF projects him to resign with Pats, 2yrs, $10M, $5 M guaranteed at signing.

They also project the Pats will sign Ryan Fitzpatrick to a 1 year contract.

Nick Caserio’s Departure:

Sad to see Nick Caserio leave the Pats.  He did so many things for the Pats from Player Personnel to on-field coaching and being a voice in the coaching box upstairs for the Patriots during the games.   He received a huge 6 year contract (3rd largest in the league).  He was blocked by Bill Belichick and now was the right time for him to move on.  Dave Ziegler, the Assistant Pro Personnel director is expected to take his place.  However, Ziegler interviewed for the Denver GM position.  He is not among the top two for that position.   If Ziegler were to take the Denver job, old friends Tom Dimitroff and Scott Pioli are available.  Dimitroff interviewed for the Detroit Lions GM position.

About Mark Morse

Merrimack Valley native and lifelong fan of the New England Patriots. My earliest memories of the Patriots were attending as a child with my dad, the off-season practice at Phillips Academy. I was at the Patriots game at Harvard Stadium in 1970 where Bob “Harpo” Gladieux was called out of the stands by the stadium announcer over the PA to play in the game. Analyzing the draft since ESPN first started to televise it in 1980 and former writer for the Lowell Sun Newspaper.
