After a long anticipated wait, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick’s first commercial with Subway was released by the sandwich chain over social media on Tuesday.

For background, in mid-July, Subway and the future Hall of Fame coach took the small town of Branford, CT by surprise when they were spotted filming multiple ad shoots in front of a local location.

Since we live in a world of social media and instant reaction, photo’s and videos of Belichick’s visit immediately went viral.

At the start of training camp, Belichick was asked what he thought of his acting appearance.

“It was pretty good. Yeah, I don’t know. I think it’s one of their super dupers or whatever. But, yeah, I haven’t ever done anything like that. I think we mentioned it on the BBF [Bill Belichick Foundation] website, but it’s kind of a difficult environment to raise funds now for charities, foundations and so forth for a number of reasons.”

Belichick then went into detail about his partnership with the company and the assistance they provided his foundation.

“This is an opportunity to spend a day to be able to fund the initiatives that we have in the foundation for student-athletes and the various sports programs that are, I would say, in a little tougher shape than maybe what they normally are financially from an opportunity standpoint. Appreciate the opportunity that Subway gave me, gave the foundation and the support that they gave us. Yeah, it was a fun commercial to do. And everybody loves sandwiches, so hopefully they will be okay with it. I know I’m going to get killed in the rookie shows on this. I know that’s going to happen, but I’ll just have to swallow it.”

After learning of Belichick’s acting day, safety Devin McCourty joked on his “Double Coverage” podcast “I can’t wait until we get back in this building and we can all talk about this five-dollar footlong Subway commercial set that we all saw Bill on, and he had on his same coaches sneakers from the facility. I am very excited to see. I am going to go out on a limb and say (Julian Edelman) probably brings it up first.”

Now about a month and a half after shooting, everyone can check the first commercial in all its glory below.

According to 985 The Sports Hub’s Matt Dolloff, the ad marks the first in a series of Belichick Subway advertisements.

Stay tuned, we’re onto the Meatball Marinara.
