In a story first reported by NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran, former Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo will return to the team as linebackers coach.
A first round draft pick in 2008, Mayo played eight seasons logging 808 tackles in 103 games before retiring in February 2016.
During his career, Mayo was selected to two Pro Bowls and an All Pro in 2010 when he led the NFL with 175 tackles. He was NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2008.
Mayo will work under newly hired defensive coordinator Greg Schiano who replaced Brian Flores.
On Instagram Wednesday, Mayo shared his reaction to the news.
