McDaniels Getting Interest From Rams and Jaguars?
Successful seasons by the Patriots always tends to lead to interest in their coaches for potential open coaching jobs, and it sounds like Josh McDaniels is already on a couple of teams’ radar.
According to the Los Angeles Times, McDaniels is among potential candidates to replace recently fired head coach Jeff Fisher as the Rams look to bring in a reputable coach to help get their team back on the road to success. The Rams are in the process of building a new stadium that opens in 2019, and as they sit in the nation’s #2 television market, having a sub .500 team is obviously not what they’re looking for.
Having seen how McDaniels handled rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett along with back-up Jimmy Garoppolo, the Rams have to be intrigued about whether or not McDaniels could get Rams QB Jared Goff to play to his potential. Goff is clearly the future of their franchise, and given that McDaniels did such a great job with each of the Patriots other two quarterbacks behind Tom Brady, the hope would likely be that he’ll do the same with the former Cal standout.
McDaniels was reportedly spotted hanging around outside the visitors’ locker room after New England’s win over the Rams, chatting with his former colleagues. The L.A. Times pointed out that it was an interesting scene, especially considering Fisher was already on thin ice.
But it sounds like the Rams aren’t the only team interested. The newspaper also reports that Jaguars General Manager Dave Caldwell is believed to be interested in McDaniels, which could set up what should be an interesting offseason for New England’s offensive coordinator.
For now, McDaniels deflected questions this week when asked if the Rams would potentially be a job he would consider as he continues getting his team ready to face the Broncos in Denver on Sunday.
“I’ve already spoken my piece on that,” said McDaniels. “I have a short week to get ready for a great opponent and I’m focused on the Broncos. I know there are a lot of things going on out there but my focus and my attention is going to stay right here in the building on the team that we have to get ready for and how we can prepare our team to play the best they can on Sunday.”
