Transaction News and Notes: Finnegan works out, sign fullback Iosefa

🕑 Read Time: 1 minutes

On Wednesday afternoon, the New England Patriots worked out retired cornerback Cortland Finnegan, but he left Foxboro unable to reach a contract agreement.

Finnegan, 31, who formally announced his retirement from the NFL back in March, was another option being reviewed by the Patriots who are actively seeking cornerback help.

In his final NFL season with the Miami Dolphins in 2014, Finnegan started in 12 games, logging 44 tackles and eight passes defended.

Finnegan walked away from the NFL with 645 career tackles, seven sacks, 18 interceptions and 86 passes defended over a nine year career with stops in Tennessee (Drafted 215th overall, 7th round), St. Louis, and lastly Miami.

In other transaction news, the Patriots signed fullback Joey Iosefa to the practice squad. The team has been without a fullback signed to the roster since James Develin suffered a broken leg in the final preseason game against the New York Giants, placing him on injured reserve.

Iosefa was drafted in the seventh round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015, but was cut on September 1, 2015.

In four seasons at the University of Hawaii, Isoefa had 512 career carries for 2,218 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also hauled in 60 passes for 438 yards and three receiving touchdowns.
