This is a world where the only way people truly believe anything anymore is if they have proof that they should have a reason to.

Apparently, New England Patriots fans don’t yet believe that there is a reason to think their team has turned the corner as they prepare for their AFC East rival, the New York Jets. That appears to be the case, judging by the predictions that were posted recently on the PatsFans.com Messageboard.

The majority of the fans have picked the New York Jets to win on Sunday, and for a team that is sure to be high on emotion following the tragedies that occured less than two weeks ago it’s going to be a tough game for the Patriots. New England dropped both games last season, and according to the messages that were posted in the forum the majority of fans don’t yet see their team winning this one either.

Several fans believe that former running back Curtis Martin is going to be the difference in the game.

“Curtis Martin scores two touchdowns (one rushing one receiving) on his way a 100+ yard day and a Jets victory,” said one poster. “Pats Offense does a decent job driving down the field, but the sacks pile up in the Red Zone- Adam kicks 4 FGs and the Jets win 20-12.”

Said another, “Martin has a 100+ yard day with one rushing TD. Our OL gets manhandled giving up 4 sacks and many hurries. Bledsoe has a decent day despite that with 1 TD no INT’s, about 230 yards and a 58% completion rate. However, Martin has too good a day getting the Jets in field position for field goals while the Pats struggle to move the ball. Jets 16 – Pats 7. ”

Until New England shows they can control their opponent, fans are still a bit pessimistic.

One fan said it best, “Guess what guys, we still are not close! Show me we can tackle and run, you know the basics of football, before we get to where we beat our rivals. Optimism’s gone. Jets win 28-17”

“Sorry, guys, but I have to take the Jets in a squeaker,” posted another fan named ‘patsgirl’. “The Jets will just be too fired up and will explode in the first half. We’ll make a nice comback effort in the second, but will come up just short.”

“Also, I don’t see much as far as our running attack. Drew will be pretty much on his own and will amass 70-80% of our yards. Unfortunately, that will result in too much pressure late in the game (i.e. costly sacks!).”

Said Jim vh, “Jets OL dominates the game. Jets 24 Pats 3, < blecch >”

We agree with you 100% Jim. Especially the < blecch > part.
