FOOTBALL NOTES (2/23) — After releasing Lamont Warren, the Patriots apparently won’t be bringing anyone in to visit the team this week. According to the Boston Herald, team officials, coaches and scouts are preparing for this weekend’s NFL scouting combine meeting in Indianapolis. That being said former Bills runningback, Thurman Thomas, is not expected to visit this week although he had told the Dolphins media he plans to visit the Patriots and the Colts during the next few days.

The release of Warren clears $460,000 from the New Englands’ payroll, and added to the $1.4 million that they are currently under the cap which may allow them to go after low-salary player. Another player to leave the team was free agent running back Jerry Ellison, who spent most of his time playing special teams for the Pats last season. He signed with Tampa Bay yesterday.

The Boston Herald referred to Troy Brown this morning as “Former Patriot and current free agent”. For now he is still part of the team after meeting with Kansas City yesterday. Reportedly there was no indication that a contract offer was made. The Philly Enquirer reported that Troy Brown, whom the Eagles are thought to like, may squeeze in a visit to Philadelphia before the personnel men and coaches depart to Indianapolis. As for Tedy Bruschi he visited the Raiders yesterday, but there are no reports of a contract offer to the free agent linebacker.
