In September 2018 Bloomberg reported Paul Rabil would be launching a new professional lacrosse league. The PLL would be a direct competitor to the more established Major League Lacrosse. The new league will provide professional lacrosse players with a minimum salary of $25,000 per season, health care, and league equity.[3]

The PLL will feature six teams with a 28-player roster. As opposed to tying teams to a specific market, the league will tour 12 different "major market cities". The season is projected to have 14 weeks, comprising 10 regular-season weekends, 1 all-star weekend, and 2 playoff weekends. It is projected the season will run during the summer from June 1 through September 21.[4] This schedule will assure there is no overlap with the NCAA Lacrosse season or National Lacrosse League season.

Could ****'s Sporting Goods Park — a Major League Soccer venue in Commerce City, Colo., and site of the 2014 FIL World Championship — be a destination on the PLL’s inaugural 14-week tour? Denver was among 30 finalist host cities announced Thursday.

The Premier Lacrosse League on Thursday announced 30 finalist host cities for its inaugural season.

In choosing these cities (listed below), the PLL considered TV viewership of college lacrosse, youth lacrosse participation data, U.S. Census population data and the presence of alternative professional sports teams. The league scored prospective hosts with projections for attendance, venues, corporate partnerships and fan experience.

Eight of the target markets — Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Columbus, Dallas, Denver and New York — have existing Major League Lacrosse franchises. The PLL’s six teams will consist largely of former MLL players who left the league to join PLL co-founder Paul Rabil and his brother, Mike, in this new venture.
