"Think we've put this, ahem, behind us? Think again. On its fifth anniversary, we proudly present the definitive oral history of the best worst play in football."
Long Live the Butt Fumble
Oh, brother, a tale told well. It's been posted in the infinitely long Jets Suck thread, but desires its...
Busy week so forgive me for not reading the Wells report for the answer. Just read about 10 posts/articles about the ball pressure data. One critical questions goes unanswered.
Ideal Gas Law calculations are based on the assumption that the volume inside a football is the SAME when temperature...
Just read Mike's summaries of each of the draft picks -- concise, informative, relevant, and not an ounce of hype, snark, or undue homerism anywhere. We are so lucky to have this hard-working guy constantly feeding us the product of his tedious homework: game breakdowns, contract and salary cap...
I didn't get to watch the game, so I was curious beyond the score how the teams compared (Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets - Box Score - September 13, 2010 - ESPN)
Total plays: Bal: 75 vs NYJ: 44
Time of Poss: 38.5 vs 21.5
Yds per rush: 1.4 vs 5.5
Here are the two that King Rex must be...
I've been all but unplugged since the SB; still can't believe it happened. One thing though: I came out of earlier SBs disliking the Rams, Panthers, and Eagles. I came out of this SB stung, but admiring the Giants. What a game! It was so much like the Pats of '01.
The Super Bowl Spotlight...
Temps in the low teens and winds from 20-35 mph is what I'm hearing.
Normally, this would be to NE's advantage. But in this matchup I can't see how it doesn't hurt Brady and the passing game, and therefore will have an equalizing effect.
I keep hearing SD will fold in the cold, but I see...
I post this to see how others feel this Pats team might be remembered years from now. Of course, the next 5 games will be all-important.
Just my personal feeling, but ending the regular season undefeated will barely be remembered if the Pats don't extend to 19-0 and a Super Bowl win. (If I'm...
I really got a chuckle from this CBSSports article by Mike Freeman.
N.B. Best lines are at the end.
Preparation BGHH might cause tight lips, focus and coach-speak

The Washington Post has some excellent sports columnists and they're all writing about the Patriots today. I love getting out-of-town perspective, and Sally Jenkins' article on Brady is well-worth the read:

Two undefeated teams with incredible systems, yet there's a great contrast and irony between the Pats and the Colts that I haven't seen discussed.
It seems clear to me that the Patriots off-season moves were to build themselves a Colts-caliber offense...but not an imitation!!
There...
A terrific thread of universal fan angst:

PS. Just for the juxtaposition, here's Reiss's 10/17/07 article on how the Welker trade happened...
From Cold, Hard Football Facts: In a season of amazing statistics for the Patriots, this could be the most amazing: in the second half of games in 2007, Tom Brady is 42 of 48 for 541 yards, 7 TDs and 0 INTs (153.22 rating)...
Escape from the circus and post some real pregame analysis here. Everlong gets us started:
Everlong's Defensive Keys to the Game
...And this matchup from Sporting News
Mike does it again with a terrific quantitative breakdown of how many men the Jets rushed and how the Pats fared against each strategy. (See article for all the numbers -- 9/11 )
Here's his "FINAL ANALYSIS: In all, the Jets blitzed 16 of 29 times. When the Jets brought two or three extra...
I'd like to propose that we start a thread each week to cover pregame analysis -- a thread where we could contribute links and our own thoughts about the upcoming game.
I wish I had found much to contribute. Most of the sports Web sites are pumping out statistical comparisons (boring) and...
Great article from Tomase, 8/24
quotes from Roger Staubach, Ron Jaworski and Joe Theisman, others.
Here's my favorite (from RJ):
"Watching him [Brady] in that offense last year was painful for me. Watching a quarterback like that in an offense built around two and three tight ends...
Troy's obviously behind Welker and, given the talent at WR, he would appear to be a "nice-to-have" this year as a 5th WR at best (barring injuries to others).
Could he make the team this year as CB in the nickel and dime packages, and playing a backup role at WR and PR?
It would be nice to...
Anyone can play! Here are my five, Letterman style:
5. That Maroney hit the rookie wall, and Dillon didn't rebound more from last year.
4. That Watson failed to become a dominant force.
3. That the secondary got decimated for the 3rd year in a row.
2. That Belichick grew so snippy...
