I like the idea of giving more carries to Vareen and Ridley, but I still think BJGE can have a role on this team.
First of all, where did this notion come from that he can't play special teams? Hell, the only reason he was on the team his first few years were because of his ST abilities...
Just a hunch, but I think if the Patriots wanted him out there, he could play tomorrow. I think this is part of their strategy to get him through a 16 game season.
I'm gonna predict he comes back to camp sometime after the 3rd preseason game, doesn't play in the 4th, and is ready to go week...
I don't think hiding is the right word, but I do think the Patriots will be very cautious with Haynesworth.
When AH is right, he is one of the most dominating players in football. But with his size and injury history, I think it makes sense to manage his workload. I wouldn't be surprised if he...
Every season I'm more excited than the previous year. My love for football and the Patriots grows every year.
As far as expectation level, the only time it's been as high as this is 07. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
I agree, the trio of Spikes, Mayo, and Fletcher seems most appealing to me. If those guys are playing in front of a quality line that keeps lineman off of them, I think they could have big years.
I went to training camp yesterday and one of the interesting things I noticed was that when they went into nickel packages they would move Bodden inside and Butler played the outside. It surprised me, I would have thought Butler would play the "star" position. It's too early to read into...
Giving up an early pick plus a big contract makes it difficult to get good value. Knowing the Pats, I never say never, but I say this is extremely unlikely.
Good stuff as usual, I'm always excited to see an idle thoughts thread.
1. As far as Haynesworth goes, I don't care about the stuff players do before they get here. Well, that's not true, I would be upset if the Patriots traded a 1st rounder for him. But since they didn't make a significant...
I was hoping the Redskins would sign Holmes, and that would force the Jets to overpay for Edwards, who is certainly an inferior reciever.
The fact that the deal is going to cost the Jets around 50 million makes it a little easier to swallow, but I still hate the Jets getting such a good player...
If the Patriots pass rush was going to improve this year it wasn't because they were going to get a lot out of TBC. If the pass rush improves it will be because they are playing better overall team defense.
I know it's been a while since we have seen a high quality Belichick defense, but...
Re: Some interesting vets being cut
When a running back has one of the greatest passing offenses in NFL history supporting him, he can look a lot better than he actually is.
Re: Some interesting vets being cut
I think the offense would be better off in the long run reducing (not replacing) BJGE's role. It's great that he got 1,000 yards last season, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a limited player, ideally I'd like to see him get 120-150 carries this year.
If the Patriots can't find someone to do TBC's job better during camp they can just resign him to a minimum deal when he is fully recovered. I can't imagine he will garner much interest in free agency, I see this as a no lose situation. The only thing that sucks is they didn't do this last year...
Hoyer had months of work with the coaching staff that Mallet won't recieve. But more than that, Hoyer won the #2 job mainly because there wasn't anyone worth a crap competing for it. Belichick didn't want to waste a spot on someone like Kevin O Connell or Andrew Walter so he made his #3 guy the...
