Ebner has a shot to make this team as a special teams ace. Winn had no chance at all, we're absolutely stacked with front 7 players, why waste a pick on a guy with no chance of making the team?
Fanene supposedly played DT pretty extensively in the Nickel for Cinci. I think out depth at DT is more than adequate, Wilfork, Fanene, Love, Deaderick, Pryor and maybe Brace can all play inside in a 4 man front. And Wilfork, Love and Brace can all play inside in the 3 man front.
That is a...
Since no player available is making this team as anything other than a Special Teamer not sure why people are up in arms about picking someone who is just that. Anyone who can't play special teams at a high level is a wasted draft pick since he'll just get cut.
Based on his Pro-day numbers and...
I'm sure the Patriots, as well as all the other teams that had him in for visits and workouts watched the same film as we did. However sorry if I trust that evaluation more than yours.
He's saying that through his extensive film study, and the experience he gained in his many many years as an NFL Scout coach and GM have lead him to know better than anyone currently employed in the NFL exactly how every college player will perform in the NFL.
At this point I'm pretty sure he's just whining for the sake of whining, no one really believes the Big 10 is a bad conference, it had 5 top 25 teams and 3 of those were top 17. It is based on the information we have a reach, but there is no way you actually believe he isn't an NFL player.
Honorable mention All Big Ten last two years. Started 49 of 50 games(missed one freshman year) So at least in college he could, pros.... well we will see.
What exactly is your evidence that he isn't an NFL caliber safety? No one has seen him in the NFL, and he performed at a high level in a power conference in college. Was he drafted higher than most "experts" projected... sure, but there is nothing to say he can't be an effective NFL player.
Reminds me of the Vollmer pick, similar totally off the board pick. I don't have a problem with it, the idea of consensus draft boards is silly, he visited a bunch of teams, if you have him that high on your board no reason to let him go and take the chance one of those teams thinks the way you...
Obviously it is tough to gauge how to distribute credit, however all of the recent teams have been near the cap, so in order to have spent $$ on free agents they would have had to dump significant assets, it's not baseball they can't just spend more. But as others have pointed out, there isn't...
Almost every team in the league pays roughly the same amount of money for their roster. The Patriots aren't "being cheap" or "not spending for the fans" they are allocating money in the way they think most likely to make them successful. It's hard to argue with the results, they are one of if...
