Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

This is the kind of decision that makes players stop listening to their coach. In the offseason, BB can be as vicious as wants. Cut people, trade people. But you gotta do right by the team while they're still playing.

That was last year. This year he has been a below average player ever since Thanksgiving. His game against the Steelers was just awful.

They punted once yesterday without him out there. They played good enough as a unit with him in there up until two weeks ago despite his alleged down season. He wasn't great this season but he was the best they had and all he had to do is make a few plays.

Seems like leaks are coming out regarding the benching so stay tuned. If he was up all night partying(allegedly) if true, than that would be selfish on his part considering others were following the rules set for the entire team.

The entire Chandler Jones situation is a good key on why it most probably is a mix of both.. disciplinary and performance related. That being said I guess there is a difference between getting stoned during a BYE week and missing curfew to party the night before the SB.

I see zero value to punishing the entire team by reducing its chances in the big game......dude was a free agent anyway.....is the hubris so great that he can just decide to sit starters and replace them with special teamers? what about the other 10 guys on the field?

when it comes to free agency, the pendulum will swing away from players wanting to come here

If you can't fathom that Rowe could have made erroneous assumptions despite the game plan that is why he was "genuinely surprised", that's on you. And there's nothing I can do to help you. I'm going to take McCourty's word over Rowe since McCourty is a captain as well as a guy who helps make the adjustments in the secondary.

I've already stated that I was disappointed that Butler wasn't out there. I've also stated that I have no idea what would have happened if he'd played. It changes the entirety of the game. No clue what the outcome would have been . None.

Butler couldn't have done worse, so it's with 100% accuracy it would have been better

Butler is getting some high praise in hindsight, he should have been out there but, let’s not act like he hasn’t been roasted in big games before like last year’s Super Bowl.
Butler made a key stop on 3rd down that kept Atlanta out of field goal range and allowed the Pats to get the ball back for Brady to tie it up.

If Butler makes even one stop in this game, just like he did last year, we win this game.

He couldn't have played any worse than Richards and Bademosi, so ragging on Butler is nonsense.

Belichick handicapped the team by refusing to play Butler and instead choosing to play scrubs Richards and Bademosi in his place.

Nothing else you've cherry picked matters.

Nothing cherry picked. You said the loss is squarely on the coach and I brought you numerous examples of players being in the right position to make a play but fail to execute. None of it has to do with coaching.

Point is this game had at times poor coaching and extremely poor execution by the players.

It just makes annoyed.

Partying does not warrant benching for an ENTIRE game, maybe just a quarter. Besides, Bill said it was not disciplinary.

See, why are you saying this. It seems to be a way of saying he shouldn't have played for quality reasons. That's not true, so it just clutters things.

So much garbage in one post. Amazing. Have you even watched the games or the coverages ? Oh boy..

Also special congrats on the genius move of saying Rowe should play in the slot (where he SUCKS because he is not quick) instead on the outside (where he is fine as long as he doesnt have to defend jump balls).

So you think the D had a good game plan? That's even worse because it means they didn't execute, which means they didn't execute because they lack talent, speed, athleticism to make the plays.

Which means we need to totally revamp the talent on d

The loss IS squarely on the coach.

If you play Butler, we win this game. Period.

Butler makes at least one single, solitary stop that Bademosi and Richards didn't, ALL GAME LONG.

One stop is all Brady needed to win the game. Period.

He didn't get it. And that's on the coaches, specifically Belichick.

Yepp. Absolutely mind numbing decision. There's got to be something to this story.Otherwise, I want this pos fired. I'm sorry but I do.

Please stop with these type of posts. I've gotten quite a few pm's saying that you are continuously trolling. To be honest, if you go and read a lot of your posts, they do come across like that. Please don't post just to incite. Thanks!!!!

When Butler leaves in free agency, he will be the recipient of the new England smear campaign that happens at times to players leaving the region. I'm looking forward to all the convenient BS "leaks" as to why Butler didn't get the start.

Chandler Jones actually played after being stoned, so BB will not sacrifice talent to teach a lesson and hurt the team. I truly believe that BB and MP probably saw enough to determine that Rowe at that moment in time was the better option.

This is idiotic.

I always thought there was an implicit understanding between players and coaches that coaches would try to allow players who helped get them to the Super Bowl to play in the Super Bowl.

I thought this was considered a kind of reward for hard work during the regular season, even if the player was a bit banged up.

You dance with who brung ya!

The killer here that just won’t stop haunting me is the fact that I truly believe the defense needed just one more damn stop. And I’m telling you Butler does not miss that 3rd n 6 tackle. The Pats put up over 600 all purpose yards and lost. That’s unheard of. And while I don’t want anyone else as our coach, Bill owns this one and I’m pissed at him.
agreed..what they were doing clearly wasn't working...maybe butler makes 1 key play.

Maybe he shouldn't be fired. But he let everyone down last night.

I didnt like the fact that Butler was on the bench but until we hear the whole truth I will refer to BB on this.

Apart from that I think the game plan didnt matter too much because the Eagles just matched up well with our defense. It came down to execution and on this day we lost most of the all-important 50/50 plays (or rather 80/20 plays in some cases). We were a fraction of a second late 3-4 times on a potential sack / strip on Foles and instead he converted third and fourth downs. That was the game. A stop on 1-2 of those plays and this game might be a 40-28 blowout win for us.

You know how when watching Hightower strip Ryan last year you can almost feel that if he had gotten there just a quarter of a second later the ball would have been out and at best an incompletion ? This years SB was full of that. We were missing a player like Hightower or Nink who could just make that one play. Instead the Eagles made it when they stripped Brady.

*****ing about Butler is just a shiny thing to complain about right now but the plays were there even without Butler that is reality. What would have happened with him on the field is all imaginary.

If that really kills you then relax because if Butler is on the field the Eagles would attack someone completely different on that play. Most probably one of the LBs. So it would have been most likely a totally different play which makes all those coulda-shoulda scenarios pointless.

what kills me is that he's dressed but doesn't play a snap.............it's absurd

eagles final TD drive.......3 consecutive plays where agholor picks up 10,18, and 10 yards

agholor destroyed the pats whenever they went to him......

who covered him? safeties

screw that........who cares what BB has done historically.......this is what he did this year in the SB.....I can guarantee you that Butler would have done a better job on Agholor than Harmon, Chung, or Mccourty

outside of the Foles catch, the eagles targeted 5 guys...only 3 WR's caught the ball ....but only one of them (Agholor) went high percentage......just so happens its the guy that Butler would have covered

Butler didn't hurt the team, BB did
