I think Flutie will be back for one more season, if he thinks that he has something to offer as a kind of wise old head for Brady, and more particularly, for Cassell, to bounce things off.
In other words, I doubt if he would particularly mind slipping to third string as long as he feels...

As a long time Flutie fan, I'm resigned to hoping that he gets to back up Cassel next season!
It doesn't seem like either he or the Pats are in a hurry to make that decision.
I suppose a lot depends on whether Flutie looked better in practise than he did on the field last year and on how much confidence the team has in Cassel. I'd like to see Flutie back for a year, backing and presumably mentoring Cassel.
Brady's comments are a non-issue. The drop kick is a non-issue. It all goes to show that when you are the guy they are looking up to, they either throw roses or turds, usually some of each.
