In a tough start for New England early in the first quarter, Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski saw his streak of consecutive field goals come to an end on Sunday in Buffalo.
Gostkowski had hit 20 field goals in a row coming into Sunday's game, but a false start by long-snapper Danny Aiken, which was followed by a bad snap on the ensuing play, ultimately played a factor in causing him to hook it wide left.
On the snap the ball was low from Aiken and holder Ryan Allen tried to bring it in and set it for him, but the miscue was just enough for Gostkowski to not hit the ball cleanly and the 32-yard kick missed the mark.
It was Gostkowski's first miss since their game back on December 15th in Miami, which was ultimately a 24-20 loss that cost them home field in the postseason.
Fortunately Gostkowski would go on to make his next three kicks, along with all of his extra points, finishing the day with 13 points while helping the Patriots beat Buffalo 37-22 and improve to 4-2 on the year, putting them in sole possession of first place in the AFC East.
After the game head coach Bill Belichick talked about the fact the offense got away with the fact they put themselves in some difficult situations, which is something he feels they won't be able to do moving forward.
"Offensively, we put ourselves in some long yard and bad situations," said Belichick. "We were able to overcome some of those, most of them as a matter of fact, but that's not the way you want to do it. We got away with it today, but that's going to catch up with us. We can't keep doing that."
