Patriots CB Aqib Talib Reportedly Seeking 'Top-of-the-Market' Money

After not franchising cornerback Aqib Talib, the latest news regarding the veteran should make the upcoming negotiations interesting.

According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, Talib reportedly wants to be paid as a top-of-the-market corner in free agency, and thanks to the recent signing of Dolphins free agent CB Brent Grimes, who received a four-year, $32 million contract, including $16 million guaranteed, it appears that should give fans a general sense of where Talib may fall relative to that deal.

Howe points out that while Talib has thoroughly enjoyed his season and a half with the Pats and may be willing to take something of a discount, the numbers will at least need to be close.

Howe also recently reported that the team has already made an effort to start the process of getting something worked out, with the two sides reportedly having met two weeks ago at the scouring combine in Indianapolis.

Head coach Bill Belichick has expressed his affinity for Talib during the veteran's brief career here, and came to his defense after the AFC Championship game following a hit by Wes Welker that knocked Talib out.

Belichick said after the game that Talib tried to fight his way back onto the field and also said, "There's no more competitive guy in that locker room than Aqib Talib."

Hopefully the two sides can get something done to make sure Talib stays there next season.
