Other People's Opinions and You: A guide to surviving the trauma of Opposing Views
Hi there! Today we're going to discuss what many consider to be the #1 issue plaguing the denizens of this here football forum.

The dreaded OPPOSING VIEWPOINT. [Cue dramatic music]

While most of us may more or less agree on various things such as who ranks as the best QB currently playing, of all time, which team dominated the 2000s, etc, it may come as a shock to you to learn that these are opinions not facts. It may be even more shocking to learn that these opinions are not shared universally. No, in fact some have the gall to actually hold opinions which are contrary to those we consider as based on obvious truth.

Please, feel free to pause reading this thread for some time while you adjust to this information. If you feel a period of light headedness or a loss of motor function please engage in a period of rest such as taking a nap or a walk to clear your head. Just please, ensure you are escorted in case the impact of this knowledge causes you to pass out.

Ok, now that you've recovered we'll move on.

The enormity of our realization that our opinions are not universal should have sunk in, to some degree, by now so we can move on to the purpose of this program - Learning to Deal.

We deal with opposing views via these simple methods that we'll discuss in greater detail below:
  • 1 - Evaluate the opinion and its basis.
  • 2 - Discuss the issue like adults.
  • 3 - Evaluate our own opinions.
  • 4 - ******* ignore other opinions if it drives you so ******* crazy you mouthbreathing cretins, Jesus Christ.

1 - Evaluate the opinion and its basis.
This is the most important step as it will typically filter out a tremendous percentage of the opposing opinions you will need to deal with and thus reduce stress.

Consider the possibility that a large portion of what is said in media and typed on the internet is done so not to actually establish a cogent line of argument but instead to elicit a response on the part of the audience.

So when someone says something as apalling as 'Tom Brady is the 2nd best QB in the league behind Cam Newton' consider what the person making this statement has to gain by making it. If they are, say, a goddamn columnist whose ******* job is to make you morons read his stupid **** and to get your dumb friends to read his stupid **** too, so stop playing into his ******* hands dip****s! This board is trolled so goddamn easily and regularly it's ******* ridiculous. HEY I DO NOT GIVE A **** WHAT BORGES OR SOME OTHER HAS BEEN HAS TO SAY ABOUT OUR TEAM. Guess what I could give even less of a **** about? What some other ******* AFC East's team board has to say about anything. I GET IT YOU DISAGREE I DO NOT CARE WHAT SOME RANDOM INTERNET DOUCHE SAYS OR THINKS.

So I'm sure you'll see that this is an effective first step in reducing the amount of stress the opinions of others may cause you, by simply learning to filter a lot of it. Try it and you'll agree, after a time, that your quality of life is drastically improved!

2 - Discuss the issue like adults.

This is a difficult step for some to take. Especially you peabrained nitwits who can't have a ******* civil conversation to save your life but instead type **** out like you're screaming at the top of your lungs.

But I digress.

3 - Evaluate our own opinions.

It's possibily the most difficult step, but it is important to keep an open mind regarding the possibility that your opinions may be less factually-based than others.

So listen up retards maybe Aaron Rodgers is the better QB to build a team around right now, there's the whole age factor. I love me some goddamn Tom Brady but he doesn't defy the ******* laws of the universe or the aging process in humans. So maybe if we were building a team right now and dropped our goddamn biases maybe we'd think that Rodgers is the best choice to build a team around, I don't ******* know I'm not some goddamn oracle but Jesus Christ if you can't question your own opinions then you're just a pigheaded moron who has no place on the planet.

Congratulations! Your progress through the program is nearly complete.

4 - ******* ignore other opinions if it drives you so ******* crazy you mouthbreathing cretins, Jesus Christ

OMG SHUT UP ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE SAYING EVERY GODDAMN DAY ON THIS FORUM IT IS THIS SAME ****: LOOK AT WHAT THIS WRITER SAID ABOUT THE PATS. LOOK AT WHAT GANG GREEN IS SAYING, LOOK AT WHAT THIS DUMB PLAYER WHO RAPED A CHICK AND SUFFERED A HEAD INJURY THAT LEFT HIM RETARDED IS SAYING ABOUT THE PATS. TAKE A ******* WALK AND GET SOME GODDAMN PERSPECTIVE AND FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO THAN TO POST ABOUT IT JESUS TITTY****ING CHRIST.

There you have it! You've completed this course. Please enter in your Name and Address below and a certified certificate of completion will be rushed to your door!*

I would not pay to see that. But if it were on youtube, I just might view it.

This thread would be salient if there were a type of I.Q based entrance exam to post on forums.

However, there aren't...so it isn't.

Well the important thing is you've found a very condescending way to tell me I'm intolerant.

Of course I shouldn't even say that, because I didn't read past the first paragraph either. I'm sure it was lovely though

I didn't read all of this, just scanned it. Too much name calling and bad language that I didn't feel like subjecting myself to. Whatever good/valid points you might have made have been undermined by the fact that you've called your fellow Pats Fans worse names than I've seen even Jets Fans labeled here. And the quantity/level of bad language is making me wonder if somebody from GangGreen hacked your account and posted this thread.

Not the best way to handle this, bro... by a long shot.

edit: on a positive note, I've always loved the dancing Wilforks...
