Default Steelers James Harrison undergoes knee surgery...expected to miss at least 6 games

James Harrison - Pittsburgh Steelers - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

The Steelers are missing a lot of leadership this season both on and off the field with Ward,Smith,Kemoetu and Farrior and now add Harrison to the mix with a likely PUP 6 week absence on the horizon.

I don't think the Steelers are going to be a problem for the Pats playoff seed quest for a top spot..in fact with all these guys gone, they may end up on the wrong end of the W L column.

Thats alot of experience and leadership gone.

That's two prominent AFC pass rushers down, one for the count and the other for just a few weeks. The Suggs injury obviously benefits the Pats, as they play the Ravens very early on in the season. Harrison's problem could linger if it's already giving him trouble, and that could benefit the Pats in a potential playoff showdown.

The Pats need to get a handle on the offensive line. Some don't seem very concerned, but I am. Mankins is back and practicing, which is awesome. Vollmer, on the other hand, could be at a crossroads in his early career. Those back issues that were so prominent in the scouting report on him persist. Many feel the G spot (ha ha) will be okay, but the T spot is one worth monitoring closely.

I want the Steelers to destroy the Broncos on opening week, and then I want them to destroy the Jets week 2. After that, they can lose 14 straight for all I care.

So here's hoping that his replacement can play well for at least 2 weeks!

Plus it's a new offense and the OL looked pretty shabby the other night.

That's a team possibly in decline and needing to rebuild on the fly, maybe. It depends on how the aging process is going to manifest on the defensive side. They were pretty good last year. They are a great organization. They should be a tough out for anybody, but I don't see them winning that division. They could fall to third.

I'm going to say it, wait for it, wait for it..... GOOD. That is at least a couple weeks he won't be trying to hurt someone who doesn't actually deserve it.

That's just about every report that I've heard today here in Pittsburgh.

They're saying that in a worst case situation he may not play for the rest of the preseason, but that he definitely should be ready to go for game #1.

Even if he had to miss a game or two, I don't think it'd matter that much, nor do I think they'd put him on PUP.

profootballtalk.com has the same report (minor cleanup, expected to miss 2-3 weeks)

Not sure where rotoworld is getting their info, but I hope that they are right and everyone else is wrong.

He won't miss 6 games. Now if he hurts the knee again...he very well could. But i bet 3 weeks.. MAYBE 4 at the longest

I think the Steelers have some variables (some that you mentioned) that make them hard to predict this year. I certainly agree that they may be in for more of a "fall" than many expect--but I don't know how bad that may be.

They very well can still win 9 or 10 games and be a very tough out in the playoffs with a WC spot.

The AFCN is a tough division to predict, and there is some parity between the top 3 teams of PIT, BAL, and CIN. (depending of course on your personal opinion re: CIN this year. I do not see them making the playoffs this yr myself)

I could easily see PIT winning the division still, just the same as I could see them going 10-6 or 9-7. I still think they are a serious competitor though, as they can be a very tough out at any given game. They are almost certainly a wildcard team at worst.
