Default Goodell gets one right

I'm certainly not a fan of the Ommissioner, but it's only fair to give him props when he gets something right:

Polamalu had been fined 10 grand for calling his wife on a cell phone and letting her know that he was alright after being pulled from a game with "concussion like symptoms".

Quote:
But now there’s some good news for Polamalu, and for fans who think a five-figure fine is slightly excessive for an offense as trivial as checking in with a loved one after an injury: Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that Polamalu was notified on Thursday that he has won his appeal of the fine.

This was well done by the league, and Goodell gets the nod from me for this one. Maybe they'll now take the next step and find a way to work such notifications into their general policies moving forward.

I agree on all counts. Perhaps players could provide a contact phone number that can be called in such cases, or the NFL could establish a private number/website for players' loved ones.
Gwedd likes this.

I don't think it was Goodell, though, aren't appeals now handled by Ted Cottrell, chosen by agreement of the owners and the union?

I know they hear appeals re: suspensions; I don't know about simple fines.

Totally agree. The worry and dread we feel as fans watching a player suffer an injury is absolutely nothing compared to how his family feels. (Though I'd vote for an official contact number a team rep would call out to for each player; a leaguewide call-in line could be subject to abuse.)

Exactly. Remember how upset Rod Tidwell's family was when he went down after that winning catch? That is art imitating life right there.
