BREAKING NEWS: Rex Guarantees Jets Will Rally to Win AFC East and Super Bowl! - New England Patriots Forums

Denver, CO. Following a 17-13 setback against the Denver Broncos that dropped the New York Jets into 3rd place in the AFC East with a record of 5-5, Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan addressed the media.

"We came into this game hoping to give the Patriots and the rest of the league a false sense of security. Our team is so talented, I mean we might be the most talented football team in the history of the league, I mean I certainly think that....That's how I feel and I won't apologize for that. Anyhow, our plan was to start slow and give the Patriots a shot at getting an early lead on us and then come roaring back during the second half of the season so we can tear out their hearts. That's what we planned. Nothing has changed. Unfortunately there were a couple of games such as the Dallas game and the Jacksonville game where the mass amount of talent of this team conquered our best effort to lose those games. We did everything in our power to try to lose those games but we we were simply too good to pull it off. I was real worried the same thing might happen today but fortunately we found a way. Now we're 5-5 and ready to actually start trying to win some football games. I feel we've got the league exactly where we want them. I mean, listen...we're not going to start licking anybodies toes. There's time for that later. Now is the time for us to prove to the rest of the league what I already know. We're the best team in the National Football League and I can guarantee you that when the dust settles we'll not only win the AFC East but the Super Bowl as well. I'm not bragging or making foolish predictions. This is how I feel. I'm not going to stop being me just because people think I sound like a fool. I am who I am. We're 5-5 and right where we expected to be. Now its time for me to tell you that we won't lose another game. We're going to be the next Super Bowl Champions. I believe that. Write that down and put it in bold. The New York Jets are Super Bowl Champions."

Reporter: "Rex are you saying you planned on losing this and other games?"

Rex: "Whoa....where'd you get that from? I said I believe in my team. I think we're the best team in the league. I'm not going to apologize for that....that's just how I feel. Our team is so good I wanted to challenge them. It's a slippery slope...Sometimes you got to toe the line. We aint playing footsies here, this is football. It's like a footrace...sometimes its better to let the other guy take the early lead and then come charging back at the end. That's been the plan all along."

Female Reporter: "Rex, did I hear you correctly? You said something about licking toes. Did you mean Belichick's rings?"

Rex: "Listen, I've already told all of you that I aint here to kiss Belichick's rings. I'm going to go get my own. What I said is that now is the time to get hungry. I'm hungry. My team is hungry. Now's not the time to start licking toes. We can do that on our off days. Right now we're a hungry team. We're going to start biting those toes off. Chewing them up and biting them off. We aint licking nothing. That's how I feel. If you leave your toes out there, we're biting those things off"

Reporters: (laugther)

Jets Press Secretary: "Rex your wife is on line 3"

Rex: "Gotta go...the toes are calling"
