Mason has slowed down a bit and is 37 years old. Evans at this point is an upgrade. Evans is more than just a deep threat though.

The problem is all of those receivers are the same. All of them are possession type receivers who run great slants. They needed a player opposite of Anquan that fits Flacco's style more, one who can run a deep route.

Downfield ability was missing in Baltimore, so the Ravens are gambling on Evans. The issue going forwards is figuring out whether his decline has been because of him or the Bills.

If it's been because of the Bills general ineptitude, the Ravens just got more dangerous. Time will tell.

Agree. Good for Evans, good for the Ravens.

We'll finally get to see what this kid can do when hes not the only player on the field who doesn't suck.

Evans hasn't been anything special the last couple of years, but that's understandable considering the state of the Bills offense during that time. With the exception of that one season (2006? 2007?) he's been mostly steady but not spectacular.
Lee Evans was relevant in 2006, his career year. He was reasonably good in 2008. The rest of his seasons have been average.

Could be a good pick up as a 3rd receiver, but that's about it.

I was thinking the complete opposite. Evans is on a downward trend, and maybe it was the QB play, but they had a good QB last year. Mason has always been productive and consistent. If I were Baltimore I'd rather have the guy who is still proven and knows the system.

Derrick Mason vs Lee Evans. It's not even close when comparing Mason to Evans.

Even at 36/37, Mason had a considerably better season than a 29/30 year old Evans. Evans is the type of guy who has wooed people with a couple of aberrations, Mason has been a consistently good performer over his entire career.

All that said, I think Evans will service a role for the Ravens. It's obvious Boldin is their go to man and I'm sure the offense will run through Boldin and Rice.
