Default OT: The Saints WILL win the Super Bowl

I want to do this without any of the Colts hate that I feel, so I waited a week to make sure that I could be objective. Having got that out of the way, I feel strongly that the Saints will win the Super Bowl, and here is why:

Colts Offense vs the Saints Defense:

The Colts will score points on the Saints defense. I think that they will score in the high 20's. The Saints defense do not have any elite players but have been built solid in all area's. Peyton is the Colts offense and is one of the best, if not the best, passing QB's of all time, so they will not shut him down. But all year long the Saints defense has been able to force turnovers and pressure the QB.

I think that the Saints will force one or two turnovers and pressure and hit Peyton enough that it will wear on him towards the end of the game.

Colts Defense vs the Saints Offense:

The Colts defense is better than many of us give credit. But they will not be facing Mark Sanchez, Jim Flacco, or Rex Grossman. Drew Brees is one of the top 5 QB's in the NFL. The Saints can match the Colts offensive weapons at every position. I think Thomas and Bush are the type of RB's that can hurt the Colts. The Saints should score in the 30's against the Colts defense.

Special Teams:

This is where the Saints have a huge advantage. I'm not predicting any ST's scores but they will give the Saints field good position. It would not surprise me if they take KP or punt to the house. The Colts ST's are just average and can give up the big play.

Coaching:

Sean Payton will be viewed as one of the top coaches in the NFL after this game. With 2 weeks to prepare, I think he puts together a winning game plan for the Saints. This is not a slight to Caldwell, Tom Moore, or any of he Colts coaches, I just think the Saints staff is better.

Intangibles:

The Saints did not play their best game last week against the Vikes and are lucky to be here. However, I think they will play their best game against the Colts and seem to be a team of destiny. Also, I think they are a better team to play outdoors should there be wind or rain Sunday.

OK, tell me if you think I'm wrong about any of this without hurting my feelings.

I think the Saints will win, particularly if Freeney is limited. The Colts defense really becomes one-dimensional if he cannot go full steam, and the Saints offensive line is very, very good. I don't think Indy can stop all the weapons that New Orleans has.

If New Orleans gets physical with Manning they will get a turnover or two, which will be the difference, and keep him from getting into a rhythm. He'll still get his points, but it's a different game.

Saints 34, Colts 28.

Freeney's a huge part of what that defense does, so a lot now depends on his condition. The Colts run D was very impressive against the Ravens, and then the Jets in back-to-back games, so I'm not convinced the Saints can run on them.

But the Saints offense is versatile, and I suspect that Brees will be changing the play depending on the defense out there. If it's a smaller package of DBs, they'll switch to the run, and if the big boys are out there, audible out to a pass. The ability to audible out would be better if Shockey's available, as he's a receiving threat and he's a pretty solid blocker as well.

I think Payton should also watch footage of the Pats-Colts game, as the Pats offense was able to put up a lot of points and yards on the Colts, especially passing the ball in the first half. The safeties seemed to struggle when asked to play coverage, and the Saints have more quality receivers than the Pats to make the Colts pay.

I'm really hoping for the Saints to win, though I admit Indy deserves to be favoured.

I am rooting for the Saints but I think the Colts are going to win this game.. way better D, Manning a QB... and they have more experience. Hopefully I have jinxed them with this post.

Count me as someone who will be rooting hard for the Saints, but thinks the Colts will win.

My argument is.....

Colts and Saints have similar defenses, both have little to no superstars (given no Bob Sanders or Dwight Freeny) but are EXTREMELY opportunistic defenses. I give this a push.

The Saints and Colts both have excellent offenses, but the Saints have shown that they can be shut down in recent weeks. See last three games of regular season and the second half of the Vikings game.

As much as I hate giving him props, Manning is, well, the "man". He is a true commander of the offense, and it does not matter that he is throwing to Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie. Think of how confident we were in the Pats offense when Tom Brady was throwing to guys like Deion Branch, David Givens, and David Patten. Though the other team would boast more stars, the Pats would find a way to win, much like the Colts are rolling right now. Throughout the season I have been pointing out the Colts flaws and finding reasons why they would lose their next game. Well, it hasn't come (Jets and Bills games don't count). Why should I think that it is gonna come now?

Oh, and the REAL reason why the Colts will win the Super Bowl:

BECAUSE FOOTBALL HATES ME!

I feel like I sold my soul to the devil in order for the Pats to win three Super Bowls. After all, since that SB39 win, the following teams have won......

Steelers (absolutely LOATHE this team)
Colts (hate this team)
Giants (at the devastating expense of the Pats, and bye bye perfect season)
Steelers (again, absolutely LOATHE this team, I want to invent a new adjective for Extreme Hate to describe my feelings toward them)

so the Colts will probably win to continue this rotten trend

pulling for the saints but have to stop manning for 60mins not 59 and thats where most teams crumble .The colts offense is relentless and manning threat looms with few secs left so unless manning has a bad day saints wont be able to keep up i think
it could end up like the phl/ne SB. everyone pulling for phl. phl making a game but the result never in doubt.

My friends told me that the Saints are guaranteed to lose because the media is using the words 'destiny' and 'path to destiny'.

And you're right. Destiny fails most often than not. See NYG@GB NFCCG 07, the game the packers just refused to die on till Favre'd. For further reading; 2007 SB.
