Not really. They won superbowls by picking up players that could contribute.
They picked up players of all ages, from the youngest player ever drafted (PK Sam) to a guy who has retired a couple times (Junior Seau).
To say that the Patriots won the superbowl by signing old players is plain wrong, as wrong as it is to say you cannot win the superbowl if you sign an old player.
The key isn't how old a player is, it is what he can contribute. To suggest signing players because they are old is goofy (who himself is so old he played with a leather helmet in his earliest cartoons).
