Caldwell: Going undefeated is secondary | ProFootballTalk.com

i dont disagree but its weird when teams think losing a game is okay but charge fans the same amount for tickets for meaningless games and also allow other teams to make playoffs or decide their fate by resting their starters. This a fix which doesnt get enough publicity. Like the colts threw the game a few yrs ago allowing the titans to get in the playoffs. Somehow its okay for the league to allow this...quite sad really.

Honestly, I prefer it.

I don't have anything to really back this up, but I feel like not playing hard the last 3 weeks of the season are really bad for a team with a bye week trying to win the super bowl. I think the Colts would have had more postseason success if they didn't coast the last 3 games of their season every time they lock up HFA early.

The way this season is going for the Colts, I'd say the odds of a classic home field choke following a bye week are getting better all the time.

Mannings legacy had been built on flashy stats in the regular season and epic failures once the real games start. 1 SB hasn't erased that and it's probably too late in his career to reverse it.

Even if the Pats had a 21 point lead halfway through the 4th quarter in the AFCCG, I'd be nervous.

If it meant that I would get an extra home game in the playoffs to watch Brady, I would gladly give up one half of watching him in Week 17.

Normally, I would agree with you, but based on the last 4 years and the way Manning has been beating the Patriots the way he has and the Super Bowl I would now have to respectfully disagree. I don't have to like the guy, but I have developed far more respect for Manning now than I used to. IMO he is at an equal level with Tom Brady than I used to consider before '06.

It's great to say that you don't rest your players until one of them gets hurt, then your the goat. There is no right way to do it.

Well, you're basically supporting my point. I agree that Manning is an extremely talented QB and yes, Manning has beaten the Pats often in the last 4 years, but just once in the playoffs. Even during the Colts '06 SB run, Manning still didn't demonstrate the same high level of play that he does during the regular season.

As recently as last year, following an MVP performance and 9 consecutive wins to close out the regular season, the Colts folded at home in the first round.

So while the Pats haven't won a SB for a few years, it's not because Brady suddenly becomes a different QB in the post season.
