From what's being written he's going to try to bring as much of the staff from The Jest as he can. That worked great for him.

If true (not on ESPN currently, and Sons of Simmons?) then great news.

Cleveland seemed like a good spot for a Pioli-McDaniels move, and now that's out.
I couldn't see Pioli taking the GM spot at all now.
So, this increases the chances of Pioli and McDaniels staying - one opportunity down.

Of course, from Cleveland's point of view, I can't see the sense at all.

Wonder what the impact is on Crennel. Would he want to work for his old (one-year?) secondary coach?

Yeah, but BB had 4 years as a DC between his head coaching stints to reevaluate his HC style. Can Mangini jump right from one mostly-failed head coaching tenure into another job and succeed right away? I mean, I suppose he could pull a Tom Coughlin and readjust his personality toward his players overnight... but that doesn't seem all too likely...

Why would he though? He got a new job roughly a week after being fired. Obviously the Browns think his coaching style is fine, and I'm sure he does too.

Part of the reason being demoted works is because its a clear and enthusiastic showing that you're not doing your job well when no one will hire you to do it again.

Rat fink will be laughing all the way to the bank! I can't believe Cleveland is hogtying themselves with this snake. It would seem to make more sense to find the coach to work for the gm, not the gm that will work with said that pathetic excuse for a coach. I hope they are their division doormats for now but reach the playoffs 2 yrs after mangina gets the axe.

Also, Mangini is no Belichick. Mangini was a one year DC before becoming a HC. Belichick had won Super Bowls as a DC. Their resumes at similar points in their times getting their first then their second head coaching jobs are very dissimilar.

Lets really think about it though is Cleveland's decision a indictment on Mangini or them? I can't think of any HC in their right minds who would want that Celeveland job. What a train wreck organization...Eric Mangini was just in the right place at the right time. Another Three year rebuilding project, well atleast he has some pieces on Offense to work with but that Defense is a mess.

Brown is the color of dookie, which is fitting given the choice of head coach.

I just cannot understand the decision. The guy may interview well, but the Jets got the initial jump start when he took the head coach job indicative of injecting a disciplinarian to the team post-Edwards. The Jets never saw the playoffs again, despite adding a ton of veterans that should have been able to take the team somewhere and completely melted down this year prompting his firing. The only success Mangini has enjoyed is in a supporting role, and it is not clear how much he contributed to that success in the end. I would love to be a fly on the wall and hear the discussion that went into that decision.

That is such BS! Mangini should never be able to be a head coach again after what he did to the Pats.
