Default Mike Lombardi comments on "tampering"

The National Football Post | National Football Post Tavern Talk

Quote:
1. I am not going to dignify Al Davis’ comments by offering remarks on everything that he said. I will, however, say this: there was never any tampering between the Patriots and Randy Moss. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and I are friends going back to our Cleveland days and we talk football all the time — like two people in the NFL who love football would normally do. Between everyone lying and everyone tampering there seemed to be a wide sweep to Davis’ accusations yesterday.

I was wondering how long it would be before he responded. I felt Florio sort of threw Lombardi under the bus a little bit with some of his comments. Though I'm sure that it has nothing to do with the fact that people that want real inside football information are starting to leave PFT to read the National Football Post, and PFT has evolved into the National Enquirer of pro football.

You forgot to mention that you got robbed for Welker. 2nd round pick there was well worth it for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins 5-11 in 2007, that's just laughable.

This whole thing starts with giving credibilty to Davis, he is acting a tad short on the smarts these days, Kiffin was in a no win situation and to throw him under the bus after his stint shows a lack of class.. this new guy Cable will not last long either, pretty soon Davis will be picking guys off of the street to coach.

Cable is an interim coach at the moment; under the Rooney rule, the Raiders would have to interview at least one minority coach before they can name him permanent HC.

Maybe he'll give Art Shell one more chance.

Are you sure? What if the Raiders win the Super Bowl? They then have to interview a minority coach?

Unless I missed something, no one forced Davis to trade Moss for a 4th round pick (that hasn't yet made his way off the bench)

Assuming there was a pre-trade workout without Raider authorization (and there's no indication there was) the Raiders had every opportunity to cry foul back then, didn't they?

But assuming it happened, the Raiders kept silent, as they WANTED to trade Moss and the workout would have HELPED that trade - not hindered it.

Or am I just not seeing this correctly?

your points make sense I would just note that if the tampering actually occured which I don't there is a likelyhood they didn't find out until after the deal.

What makes sense to me and I can't remember where I read is that Mike Lombardi may have volunteered some info that Davis feels BB should not have had in in Davis' head he sees this as tampering but the reality is BB did nothing wrong and Lombardi sold out Davis and Davis is pissed that it happened and is misinterpreting the situation as tampering.

What is the worst part of this is that espn and yahoo sports writers are paying no attention to the fact that Uncle Al admitted to everyone that he tampered with Monty Kiffen who was gainfully employed by the Bucs when he talked with him. Not that I am surprised just another reason I do not watch espn for NFL coverage other than the games themselves. I am sure there is tampering of some level that occurs all the time but it only gets brought up whem someones trying to stick it to somebody. I uncle Al's own word's "get over it"!
