The Philadelphia Eagles could be searching for a long term solution at left tackle due to the Achilles' tendon injury to Jason Peters.
They signed Demetress Bell of the Bills to a five year contract.

Please don't let us trade up too far for Brockers, same would go for Coples if he had been mentioned . Ingram I would take but I'd rather have 2 first rounders (if they were going to be used) than using both for Melvin.

From 2006-2010 we have had 15 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Out of those 15 picks only 4 have turned out good. 11 have been BUSTS on our team. I am not counting last year since it's too early to tell still.
Like I said, he obviously wouldn't have had a projected Top 15 player like Melvin Ingram visiting Gilette if he wasn't considering trading up.
Even Brockers would most likely require trading up about 5-10 spots to pick.
BB wouldn't waste time and resources having these guys visit Gilette if he had no interest in trading up.
Mr. Drake, I like your thread, and I am all for trading up for Brockers, whose game film shows that he is a true competitor who whips the opposing O-Line in the 2nd half when he has figured out how they play him. I am impressed with Ingram too even if he has T-Rex arms.
But for goodness sake, Clay Matthews is not good. He is a one-trick pony who lost his one trick last year; I have a strong suspicion he juiced his way to that one trick anyway. He would NOT fit in with a Belichick defense that demands accountability to your assignment, rather than simply running around wherever you damn well please until you hit the quarterback. He is football's most overrated player. Plus, while Butler/Brace certainly didn't work out, I think it has been proven MULTIPLE TIMES on this very forum that the trade gave the Pats the ammo they needed to secure Rob Gronkowski, who will (barring injury) go down as one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game. He is already the best tight end I've ever seen. Just for that alone, can we get off the Matthews BS? He's not very good, the Pats got Gronk out of the trade...let's move on. Goodness.

LOL. All jokes aside, what are you blabbing on about? I didn't edit the part that I was accused of, I edited the quote code. It happens. You're not proving anything. All you're doing is spamming and boosting your post count. Now go away little boy.

Thanks for the compliment.
I don't see how Matthews is a 1 trick pony though. While his sack numbers went down, his numbers show he's a much more rounded and complete player now. He had career highs in Interceptions and Forced Fumbles last year. And while he didn't put up as many sacks as he did in his first 2 years, he had almost the same amount of QB pressures as he did in their SuperBowl year when he gained popularity. While he may be overrated a tad bit, he's done a HELL OF A LOT MORE than Darius Butler and Ron Brace combined.
My point in showing BB's 2nd nd 3rd round failure rates was to show that we SHOULD trade up because there's a high chance the picks used to trade up would end up as busts anyways.
As far as not getting Gronk goes... We still could've got Gronk in 2010 as we had another 2nd round pick 11 spots later that we used on Jermaine Cunningham.

This is a fair point, I just think it's getting tiresome to talk about a player that plays an undisciplined style of football that does not fit in with what the Patriots do on defense. For the Pats, Matthews would be a 1 down player.
He makes a lot of splash plays, and I know that's exciting, but the Packers' defense was brutal last season, with a guy who is alleged to be one of the most dominant defenders in the league leading the way. Two of those interceptions were thrown right into his gut, I remember seeing them. He is a net negative against the run.
Was I a bit harsh in calling him bad? Maybe. But I fail to see how he's any better than Cameron Wake, a guy the Patriots could have simply signed, rather than use a first round pick on him, and people don't have an obsession with how we missed out on him. He and Connor Barwin stick in my craw significantly more than Clay III.
His dad, his hair, his team...it's a perfect storm for the media to obsess over a player who is a knockoff version of his position coach, Kevin Greene.
But I do not mean to hijack this thread...I'm extremely excited about the interest they are showing in Brockers. He's young and raw, but I think he'd be a really nice addition to the defense, even if it takes him a year to figure things out. He puts a lot of that up the gut pressure that Seymour used to, he gets his mitts on a lot of passes, he's a beast against the run, and he was doing all of this as a young player in the toughest conference in college football. Just on film, he strikes me as a competitor who gets better as the game goes on. He uses his hands the entire game; he isn't a leaner. He was absolutely whipping the Georgia and Bama OLs in the 2nd half of their games; there are a lot of NFL caliber players on those lines.
Ingram may be a guy that Belichick breaks his "rules" for, or he could just be doing his due diligence to see if he wants to change up his physical requirements. I'm more convinced the Pats' interest in Brockers is legit, but Ingram made a ton of plays last year at South Carolina and is a unique athlete (witness his touchdown on the fake punt).
