Jake Long is a beast. Hopefully, this means that either Chris Long or Vernon Gholston will slip to us. Unlikely, but I'm staying hopeful.

If anything, it increases the chances that Matt Ryan is on the board when we pick for trading purposes.

My guess is that when everything is said and done, Miami will negotiate with two or three players and give the one who is willing to take the best contract for the team's perspective like Houston did with Mario Williams and Reggie Bush.

I do think if Jake Long does end up being the first pick, it may shake up every pick ahead of us. I don't think St. Louis is prepared to have both Chris Long and Gholston on the board when they pick.

Funny scenario: Miami drafts J. Long, Pats draft V. Gholston, Gholston picks up right where he left off in college and abuses J. Long for the next 10 years. Sweet.

Suddenly the OL is all the rage of the top of the draft as the dropoff is steep. Long dropping to us will be huge if it happens. Hopefully ... the media stays hooked on Gholston ... I'll take Long all day long over him. Belichick will go nuts with Long - Vrabel and AD all interchangeable

I don't think Matt Ryan gets past Atlanta at #3. They desperately need a new 'face of the franchise' and Ryan gives them just that, along with hope and a way to sell more tickets.

If this rumor is true, and I don't see a reason to doubt it yet then St Louis' pick is going to be the critical one.

1 Miami. Jake Long. Cornerstone of the offensive line.
2 St Lous. Chris Long or Dorsey. With the top tackle gone, their DL needs a serious upgrade.
3 Atlanta. Matt Ryan. Face of the franchise.
4 Oakland. McFadden. Has the electric speed Davis loves.
5 Kansas City. Ryan Clady or Dorsey. KC either takes the best OL or DL left.
6 NYJ. Gholston. Great pass rusher and takes away a potential weapon from the Pats.
7 NE. Trade down and pick up extra picks. If either Ellis or Dorsey slides here, they have decent trade bait.

My read on the how the draft will play out right now is

1. Mia: J. Long
2. StL: Gholston
3. Atl: Dorsey
4. Oak: McFadden
5. Balt (from KC): Ryan
6. NYJ: C. Long
7. NE: Clady
8. KC: Albert
9. Cin: Ellis
10. NO: DRC
11. Buff: McKelvin
12. Den: Rivers
13. Car: Harvey
14. Chi: Mendenhall
