It very well could be someone that none of us predicted.
I wouldn't doubt that for a second. Could be another player. Could be a trade down for multiple picks.

Reiss made a good point on why they won't take a CB with the 7th pick.
He said that, if they truly wanted to pay a corner that kind of money they would have worked out a deal with Asante, instead of paying a unproven player. I don't see them using that pick if both Chris Long and Vernon Gholston are gone, they will probably trade down for multiple picks. |

Man that'd be something if Long/Gholston were still there...
Damn Jets...

Has anybody figured maybe we trade up for J.Long/C.Long/Gholston? I mean, we usually cut a bunch of draft picks anyways... why not just ensure we get the guy we really want in the first (if we really want one of them)?

That is the key question.
Who does BB & SP feel are good for the Pats, not whoever all these draft nerds have a little stiffy for at the moment. |

Im realizing that #7 slot is such a 'fringe' spot. Meaning that its about the cutoff point between getting one of the elite players that are likely only to be taken in the top 5, vs a player that could easily fall into the 20s, or even possibly into the 2nd round.
With the Pats loading up on veteran corners here recently, the last thing Id expect them to do is take a CB in the actual #7 hole. They may trade down to 15 or 20 or where ever and take a corner in that position. But I definitely do not see a corner getting drafted by this team at 7. I think theyre obviously either trading down or even up, or theyre taking a lineman or backer. Im not putting it past the team to draft a Oguard/tackle to possibly take over at RG this upcoming season, and move to RT in Kasczur's spot eventually. If the best laid plans for adding one of the impact players falls apart, and no trades are available, I fully expect them to fall back on the somewhat 'safe' drafting strategy that has led to so much success. Draft a big guy to play line on either side of the ball, and put him out there in the starting lineup from day 1. Clady or Otah may end up being the pick. |

Could even be a trade up to leapfrog around the Jets to grab a guy before MangIdiot grabs. I'd expect that to be a hot rumor leading up to the draft... if only to prompt MangIdiot to do the same thing and leapfrog to #4. Belichick has a way of getting the Jets to do stupid things in the draft. I seem to recall him prompting them to use two 1st round draft picks to move up to #4 a few years back. I don't think that guy worked out all that well for them. |

Fellers,
this is the first time in many many years that I have absolutely no clue as to where the Pats will go in the draft. I've looked at all the options available and I cannot say with any conviction what they'll dp. Heck, they might even trade up and take a QB... that's how weird this year is. Certainly I'd loke to (personally) see them take Chris Long. I think he'd be an excellent fit in here, but there are also so many others . The big problem with any picks this year is that, despite personal favourites we all have, there really aren't that many folks who are worth the kind of money that top-10 picks have been demanding. I think that there really needs to be a cap in place for rookie contracts, at least for first-round. There have been so many big-money busts from the top ten. This year I am just going to sit back and watch the show. Like I said, this time around I am really stumped because there are just so many scenarios that all would make sense. Sigh..... |
