That trophy represents the team – I mean that word collectively, that is able to play the best season for the year that it's engraved. It doesn't mean anything about what happened the year before. It doesn't say what's the best team, which has the most talented players, which teams has the biggest payroll, smallest payroll. It stands for the team that played the best in that season. Put the number on there for that year. And the next year we start all over again everybody is at the same point."
Ghoulston is not happening ... they'll take the CB Jenkins before they take Ghoulston. I think they'll even trade down and take Conner or Rivers over Ghoulston.
Gholston (thats how its spelled) is a definite possibility, if the Jets don't pick him, which the Jets fans claim they will. As far as drafting Conner or Rivers, I can't see it. The drafting of linebackers by Bill has been beaten to death on this forum so I shouldn't have to explain it. I think Leodis McKelvin is a serious possibility, and maybe even Ryan Clady (but I haven't seen him play, strictly going on what i have read). I think theres only three positions we can address with our first rounders (even if we trade down) and thats a Right Tackle, DB and a pass rushing DE who could make the switch to OLB.
I think Gholston is for real. I'm not sure if he lasts to #7 though. I figure McFadden, Long, Long, Ryan and Dorsey are in some order the clear top 5. That leaves the Jets at #6 looking at Gholston, Sedric Ellis, Clady, Talib and McKelvin. Not sure who they will wind up valuing at that spot, and the picture will come to much clearer focus after the weekend is up and the combine numbers are posted. If Gholston runs in the 4.5-4.6 range, he's likely a Jet.
I think the Jets will take him. They're not going to take a cornerback for the 2nd year in a row. They're not going to take a quarterback, and Ryan won't be there anyway. They need pass rushers.
I also think the Jets are going to take him.
But don't be too disappointed.
It's hard to tell sometimes if a guy will translate to the next level.
From what I hear, Gholston is athletically gifted but raw.
Here is the career of Manny Lawson, a guy many fans clamored to draft in 2006:
But who knows maybe the 3rd year will be a charm.
The problem is, do the Pats have 3 years to develop a raw player?
This is a Superbowl contending team nearly every year now, and Tom Brady's window is shrinking. Assuming we resign Moss, our offensive core, will have two 31 years old when the 2008 season starts.

In the last five or so years, Gholston is the college DE I've had the most confidence could come in and play OLB. Moreso than Lawson, Chris Long, Spencer, Woodley, Wimbley, or whomever. He's the real deal physically, and appears to have the mental make-up as well.

How does he compare to Gaines Adams? They are in the same draft pick range, maybe Adams a bit higher. It's hard to compare Lawson et al to Ghoslton as Gholston is a top 10 pick and Lawson was in the 20s.

isn't adams more of an end and rrely plays pass coverage? so it would seem unfair to make comparisons because ghoslton will be asked to do certain things.
how is gholston's motor so to speak?
