28. Muhammed Wilkerson DE34 TempleCan stop the run, he is a decent pass rusher, he can learn a lot from Ty Warren. This is the Patriots biggest need and he is a perfect player/fit for the Patriots.

33. Brooks Reed OLB34 ArizonaOne of the best pass rushers in the draft and is one of my binkies. He needs to work on dropping back into coverage, but he is an all around LB. Also, there was also another DE/OLB that came out of Arizona. Need I say more?

60. Brandon Fusco OC Slippery RockWith the Retirement of Stephen Neal, the Patriots need a OC that will protect Brady. Brandon will get the job done.

74. Rodney Hudson OG Florida StateMankins future with the Patriots is unclear, but regardless we need more depth on the oline. I would rather take Danny Watkins but he was already taken.

92. DeMarco Murray RB OklahomaHe wouldnt be a feature back. I see the Lawfirm as our feature back. He will compliment the Lawfirm very nicely. Fred Taylor is as good as gone and not sure about Morris, but we need to get younger at this position. Lawfirm/Woodhead/Murray, I would take that!

I'm cool with the first 3 picks. I think Fusco is a reach at 60. I wouldn't be upset with Murray in the late 3rd. I think he'd be a decent change of pace from BJGE and Woodhead.

Metaphors

Nothing wrong with these picks. If Smith slides right into the LT spot, this looks like an 'A' draft. If Light is re-signed or Smith starts at RT, then the grade may go down a little.

Take these same players and slide them down (Fusco 74th, Hudson 92nd, Murray 4th round) and then take someone for the secondary at #60 (CB or S...your choice) and I'm sold. Fusco should be there at #74 and Hudson/Murray have comparable alternatives if they don't last. Pick #60 should be an ideal spot to catch the run on 2nd-tier DBs.

I did a complete 3 round draft but to lazy to type the whole thing up. I went by team needs just to let you know. The two players i really want from this draft is Muhammed Wilkerson and Brooks Reed!!

Me too. sign me up. If Aldon Smith falls to 17 I'd take him and I'd still consider taking Reed in the 2nd for insurance.

Smith is a fine choice if Light doesn't sign before the draft, with Costanzo being next.

Wilkerson and Reed are fine choices.

Fusco is OK, but I would pick Watkins if he were there ar 60.

Hudson seem to be big fat and slow, not dante's type. Besides, if you want Murray (a good idea), I think that you will need to use #74. If you want an OL at 74, then how about Carpenter?

All the positive talk on Brooks Reed, and I dont know his game at all. So I thought I'd watch his film. He played 4-3 DE for Arizona. I didn't see him drop into coverage at all in the Iowa game. YouTube - Brooks Reed vs Iowa

I imagine he's a binkie because of the measurables and the flowing blonde locks. But although he looks explosive, his game reminds me of Connor Barwin... kinda all over the place.

At OLB, I still prefer Jeremy Beal, even with his poor combine numbers. Why? compare the film. YouTube - Jeremy Beal vs. Oklahoma State (2010)

Notice: Beal is playing standing up. He's reading and reacting to the play. He's taking on blockers and making the tackle, he rushes the passer, he drops into coverage. These are things BB values. It also means that Beal was expected to be cerebral in his game as a college player, which is something BB will prize. Whereas Reed's job in college was to pin his ears back and get to the quarterback, Beal has already taken mental reps reading the QBs and watching the motion of the RB. These are things Reed was not doing-- so, when you say "he's got OLB skills" I assume that means he tests well, because I don't see the skills in practice.

Now, very likely Reed will be able to transition to OLB with time. Physically he seems to have the tools. Whether he does mentally or not is the gamble. It might take a redshirt year.

Me... I wouldn't take Reed if Beal is still on the board. In fact, if Beal's Combine numbers are so poor that he drops late into the 2nd, then that sounds ideal to me. He made plays against top competition, playing a role similar to what we'd want from him in a Pats uni, and that counts for a lot. He's big, strong, good tackler. Has experience moving in space. Spikes didn't measure well, either.

To be fair, Rook, the problem isn't mostly "combine numbers." Beal looked so very bad in the Senior Bowl (including practices) and Combine skill drills that there's legitimate worry that he's just not up to the next level of competition.

Mgteich, are you sure you're thinking of Hudson? He's only 299 lbs. My problem with the pick is that I think he's a C in the NFL, not a guard -- and definitely not a LG.

Patriot Missile

You tube can make anyone look good or bad. It take more than a couple of minutes of film made by some blind stalker fan that makes a highlight reel out of his favorite player to impress me. I love watching the clips on youtube too because the athletic ability and awareness is front and center.

However as we know, they aren't everything. This whole board was all over Maroneys highlight reel out of Minnesota with the Irish theme music. They should of showed his 6th grade tap lessons instead and we may have cooled a little on him
