Default Aldon Smith - OLB - Missouri (HT: 6-5 - WT: 260)

He has the right size and would be an athletic upgrade. He might be a little too lean and too fast but we can find a way to make him work, he should be available with picks 32,33

Any couch scouts out there who have seen him play?

He is atop my big board right now for #17, afraid he may not last that long.

Unfortunately, I don't he will be available at #32, and with some high-caliber juniors dropping out, he might not make it to #17.

Here is what we have to say about him.

Too lean? To me, 260 is 260, being that hefty alone is good enough even if he is 6'5". If he plays with a low pad level and has good lower body strength then his leanness shouldn't be a concern.

Strength (upper or lower) is not his bailiwick, but he is still a youngin' - A real pro workout program should be able to add some muscle to him.

Has BB ever drafted a RS sophomore before?

None early for sure. PK Sam may have sat out a year and played two.
But, he was a late round pick. On top of being a redshirt soph. Smith missed some games because of injury this year 3 or 4 I believe. Physically looks the part. Lack of experience probably means a no.

Tough to tell. The returns of Warren, Bodden and Kaczur are gonne make it real tough for rookies to find spots in the regular rotation. With the defense performing as effectively as it has over the 2nd half of the year with a young cast growing into their roles, it may be worth the time investment on Smith. In BB era there have been very few OLB prospects who fit Smith's mold. I'd pounce if given the chance.
