Default Gil Brandt Top 100

Gil Brandt just release his top 100 players list:

The 'Hot 100' picks for the 2009 draft

It's organized in groups of 10 with no distinction within the group as far as relative position.

Some surprises:

- Matt Stafford and Josh Freeman in the top 10 group at QB, but Mark Sanchez in the second (11-20) group. That seems low for Sanchez and very high for Freeman. One of my potential wild cards is someone trading up to the top 10 for Freeman if Stafford and Sanchez go early.
- Tyson Jackson in the 1-10 group and BJ Raji in the 11-20 group. Seems high for Jackson and low for Raji.
- Connor Barwin, Darius Butler, Hakeem Nicks, Jarron Gilbert and Louis Delmas all in the 41-50 group. Seems a bit low.
- Ron Brace, Sean Smith and Eric Wood in the 61-70 group. Seems low.

Just got done reading it on NFL.com. I think unlike mocks were you see certain players in certain places because of need, he sort of lumps some positions together in certain tiers. Or one players placement in a tier might relegate another player of the same position to a lower tier. # QB's in tier one stuck out, obviously because he deems the position to have a greater value. Later on in tier six and seven he sort of remembered lumps of CB's and OL. Overall I liked looking at it in tiers. After reading through I stopped to see where I was, teir five, and I thought to myself, we get three of those guys....... Cool.

Tier 5 (41-50) looks good to me; I could deal with any two of these guys Barwin, Chung, Delmas, Gilbert, Darius Butler and Sintim.

John Parker Wilson in Tier 9?!?!? Interesting.

Tier 5 gets my vote 2. I would be thrilled with Barwin, Delmas and Gilbert with 3 of our 4 picks. Add an OL (Beatty, Mack or Wood) or an SILB candidate with the other pick, or trade it into 2010.

Not to nitpick, but he has Barnes (CB) at #61 and $ 81.

Interesting read and Michael Johnson has the longest neck I have ever seen, no wonder he is 6'7. Check his picture he looks like a freak

Look at what he has to say about Gilbert:

"Father Daren played OT for the New Orleans Saints… Good combine numbers (4.85 40 and 35 ½-inch vertical jump at 288 pounds)… Has 36 ¾-inch arms… While he had 9.5 sacks and 22 tackles for loss in 2008, he might have better upside as an offensive tackle… Does not go all-out on every down."

Does he really think that he is going to play offensive tackle in the NFL???

Quite some comments on Vontae Davis, eh?

Seems reasonable to me.

It would allow my ideal draft:
Laurnaitis #23 future Team Captain and SILB, blitzer and pass defender
Barwin #34 another OLB candidate to go with Woods, Crabel, Redd
A S from 2b Chung, Moore, Delmas,
A backup NT #2c Ron Brace, finally a real NT backup and 7th DL. or
Robiskie WR #2c alternate
#3a an OL, destined for IR/PS for development
#3b BPA
