Default 3/24 4 round mock from Walter Football

This just out from Walter Football:

http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2009.php

I've panned some of these guys picks in the past, but this one seems much more reasonable, at least for the Pats:

23 - Rey Maualuga, ILB. I'm not sold on Maualuga, but it's not an unreasonable pick, especially with the remaining OT's and Ayers off the board (Britton at 18, Beatty at 20, Ayers at 21).

34 - Connor Barwin, OLB. No argument there. Just hope he lasts that long.

47 - William Moore, SS. Again, no argument there. I personally prefer Louis Delmas, who they have going at #49, but Moore has superior size and it's a preference thing.

58 - Gerald Cadogan, OT. I think he's a big reach in the 3rd, especially with Eric Wood (#63) and Jarron Gilbert (#64) still available.

89 - Andy Levitre, OG, Oregon St. Not a bad pick, especially given that they have us taking an OT earlier. I probably prefer TD Lang (#96 in their mock) as a tackle/guard prospect.

97 - they don't have comp picks in their draft yet.

120 - Shawn Nelson, TE. Excellent value in the 4th. We don't need TE, but with Watson and Thomas in their contract years an athletic pass-catching TE to complement Chris Baker wouldn't be a bad choice at all.

I would probably revise their draft as follows (including the comp pick):

23 - Maualuga
34 - Barwin
47 - Louis Delmas (but if you prefer Moore that's fine)
58 - Jarron Gilbert, DE or Eric Wood, OG (or better yet, trade up and get both!)
89 - TD Lang, OL (#96 in their draft)
97 - Shawn Nelson
124 - Mike Wallace, WR (#128) or Trevor Canfield, OG (#125)

That would be a very solid draft.

Of their non-Pats picks, the biggest surprise is Michael Johnson going #7 to the Raiders. They also have Hakeem Nicks dropping to Cleveland at #50, which would be reasonable if Cleveland does trade Braylon Edwards. Nicks showed up at his pro day 14 lbs. heavier than the combine and looked slow, so he could possibly drop out of the 1st round.

I'd be tickled pink with that draft, especially with the anticipation of Maualuga's press conference.

My only disagreement is Cadogan as a reach at 3rd. He's been projected in the 3-4 range for a while now.

He's been projected as a 3rd-4th guy, so #58 in the 2nd is quite high for him, especially with Wood and Gilbert still on the board. Cadogan has a lot of nice things about him, but his footwork seems slow, which worries me.

So, um, 58 is the second round...See how bad my math is?

Misread the post. Beg your pardon. Move along, folks. Nothing to see here...

I have a gut feeling we will pick Eric Wood in the second. Probably one of the more underrated Linemen in this year's draft. He can play center or guard. I personally think he is better than Unger(who ppl have ranked higher) cus he is more physically dominate at the point of attack and is a mauler where as Unger is more of the ZBS type. Both are good but Wood would probably fit our system a little better.

Mayo: is there a reason your links don't show up as hypertext links?

I have no idea why that link didn't show up as hypertext. I just cut and past the link, and it usually shows up as a hypertext link. Not sure why that one didn't.

I think that Wood is the most likely pick if we stay at #58. I personally agree with you about liking him better than Unger, particularly because of his toughness and more physical style. I like Alex Mack a little more, but think that Mack will probably go 25-30 picks higher. Wood, Jarron Gilbert, and William Moore are my favorite options in the 58 range right now if we stay there.

I think Wood is gone before #58, I like him a lot, but if NE misses on him then T.J. Lang of Eastern Michigan gets the nod from me.

At 58? I suggested him at 89 if we don't go OL earlier, but I haven't seen enough to think that he would be value at 58. Do you?
