Ochmed, I agree that Meriweather really stepped up when he was needed at SS this year. So he can play SS, but should he? Or to put it another way, if you had two comparable starting-caliber talents to choose from to add to this team, one a prototype FS and one a prototype SS, which would you pick?

I don't think it is as easy as a player has to be X size to play x position. Look at Bob Sanders in Indy for example.

I think Merriweather is an NFL calibre SS and I think he excels when placed closer to the LOS.

When faced with two players competing for the same spot, I would ALWAYS pick the player that gives the team the best chance to win.

The way I see it is if the Pats added a Will Moore type player, then he just adds the the versatility of the defense because the Pats could bring up either him or Meriweather into the box and have no fall off in play..

I agree. I think Brandon is developing very nicely as a Rodney Jr. - style play maker. I don't see him as an Ed Reed-type. I'd love it if he had more meat on his bones to absorb hits and improve the energy transfer portion of his tackles, but he is what he is and I think he's found his niche in NE's defense. Grab a Courtney Greene or Chip Vaughn to play centerfield and "impress" the WRs.
