Default Osi Umenyiora.... Why Not?

Osi Umenyiora will probably leave New York Giants - Sports - The Boston Globe

He's obviously done in New York and we need to continue to get some more defensive lineman, why not him? Of course, this is based on if he's willing to not try and "break the bank" persay, I say we take a look at him.

Belichick loves taking veteran players thats played well against his teams. He did the same thing with an out-of-gas Shaun Ellis last year, I think Osi would bring much more than Ellis did. Him and with Chandler on the opposite side could be an awesome pair. Seeing as to most of us wanting to take a swing at Babin when he was released, whats your take on this guy?

Should BB take a whirl at him should he become availible?

Why?

He sucks playing the run. Not worth the $$$. I'd rather have Rob Ninkovich.

Osy is overrated imo. Not bad by any means, and probably worth kicking the tires on.... but...

Now, JPP on the other hand....

I'd rather use our available cap on our own FAs; we have several important ones.
Off The Grid likes this.

Osi would be a good situational pass rusher. Same thing for Tuck, I think he's done in NY. If we can get those guys in for cheap and put them in a backup role, then Im ok with that. Otherwise I'd rather have younger guys.

I doubt wither one will sign for a backup role.

I would rather have a defensive end that can set the corner and kick inside and press the pocket. Someone like Red Bryant of Seattle. Muhammad Wilkerson of the Jets.

Osi probably wants $10 million a year and won't appreciably improve the defense. I'd rather they re-sign Welker for that kind of money.

We have to take care of our FA first. If any 2+ of Welker/Vollmer/Talib are re-signed it'll be hard to get a big money FA. Even if not, I don't see us breaking the bank for a one dimensional player.

If we do make a splash I'd hope it's for a safety or CB, though I don't know who's available.

He's also lost that quick first step as a pass rusher.

The Giants have a ton of FAs and a big issue about who they have to focus on keeping. The guy I would target if I could spend any money at all would be Kenny Phillips. He's been banged up a lot, but when healthy he's been quite good when paired with Antrel Rolle, and I think he would be a great complement to Devin McCourty, and a huge upgrade over Gregory. It's a long shot, but there's a decent chance the Giants will let him walk, and with his injury history he may not command quite as much money on the open market.
