Wouldn't want to be the Jags this week. (Well, OK, any week; but especially this week).

I think the Newtown tragedy is influencing people in the NE people more. I live in NC, and everyone is very sad about it, but when I talked to my family up in Amesbury, they were clearly much more shell-shocked than me. After all, it is a typical small New England town, much like Amesbury.

I do not think that is a crazy theory at all.

The difference is that Brady calmly calls audibles while Manning flaps like a chicken, barks 11 code words, and makes sure every camera in the stadium has documented his once-in-a-generation (and patented, I believe) ability to see a defensive formation and change the play. Both have the same effect, but Manning transcends measurable human intellect while Brady merely chooses a different play.

But the Patriots are close to the area, same with Giants and Jets. The Giants also played really poorly and couldn't manage to rebound a bit as we did. I read that one of the little victims was a huge Victor Cruz fan and that Cruz was driving over to Newtown with a bunch of stuff from the Giants locker room for the family. I can't help but think it may have had an effect when I read stuff like that. With the Jets level of play in general, it's hard to tell either way, though.
I think the Newtown effect is very real. Young people in their 20s, with or without kids, have been hit hard by this where I work. It is a tragedy of unimaginable evil - less understandable than Columbine, Oklahoma City or Waco before it. These young men with families and new mothers are not immune, especially when they, too, have none of the answers those around them are seeking.
