With Edelman's injury we might be looking around the league at other teams' practice squad players, there are some players of note that might be worth looking into.
1) James Rodgers, WR, ATL
He was a good punt and kick returner at Oregon State and is #1 on their all time receptions list.
2) Junior Hemingway, WR, KC
Was very productive at Michigan, has good size/speed
3) Josh Bellamy, WR, KC
Had pretty good production in college, also played Corner and can fill the special teams void
4) Chad Hall, WR, SF
Has experience returning punts at the NFL level with a respectable avg of 10.7 yards per return, also has 14 receptions and 2 TDs when with the Eagles
5) Jeff Maehl, WR, HOU
Good short area quickness and was very productive in Oregon's no-huddle

Nobody is going to come in and be useful within a week unless they've been in the system before. That pretty much leaves Branch, Gaffney, Stallworth, and Ebert.

Branch is injured, Gaffney is suspended and we don't know how serious Edelman's injury is and with no Edelman Welker is forced into PR duties. If we bring in another team's PS player is would be for a min. of 3 weeks on the roster. If the if Edelman is out multiple weeks I wouldn't be shocked if somebody is brought in.

I want this guy bad but I doubt he'll be able to come in and produce anytime soon.

That still leaves Stallworth and Ebert as more likely. If Edelman can't play, then they need WR help now, not in two weeks when a new practice squad guy finally knows a third of the offense.

We still need a punt returner and someone to take special teams snaps. Stallwoth was worked out and not signed, Ebert was cut and not even resigned to the PS initially. Anybody we bring in wouldn't be getting much if at all on offense anyways, but is either Welker or Lloyd goes down Slater would be forced to take significant snaps.

Just an FYI, it was tweeted earlier today that Gaffney's suspension is actually up and he is signable, if healthy.
You are also forgetting about Kamar Aiken who is currently on the Pats PS. However, Aiken is a taller receiver (6'1) and has similar speed to Lloyd and a good 3 cone at 6.85.
We'll probably just give more snaps to Slater and Vereen.

The Patriots have been overachievers the past two years. It doesn't have the talent to compensate for injuries, and it wins so much because it puts in 99% effort in the regular season and plays with terrific schemes to mask its deficiencies.
But in the playoffs a good team at 99% will not beat emotional, talented teams that play at 100%. It's what happened against the Giants in 2011 and the Ravens in 2012.
I don't see why any of these are better choices than Ebert or Stallworth.
