Belichick personally worked out Dennard

Well if that's the case, that would make me wrong. Happy to acknowledge that fact. Happens often.

Hence the OP's question.

I'd love to see Bequette get in even for a limited role/passing downs but looks unlikely to happen. Right now Nink has stepped up as that passrusher we've needed across from Jones.

I like how the first comment on that article was 6 months ago some guy claimed Dennard would be the steal of the draft. If Dennard continues playing like the last 2 weeks he will be.

I had no idea BB personally worked out Dennard. That might speak to the Wilson pick more than anything. If you are coming into the second looking at guys like Boykin and Wilson, and you think Dennard can be just as good as Boykin and you have no faith in the safeties further down like Iloka and Martin, you get Wilson and gamble on Dennard. Playing the value game works out every once in a while.

If Bequette is being beat out by Francis, then I have no hopes for him. Not because I think little of Francis, but because Francis had to come from the depths, and Bequette should have had plenty of time to impose himself by then. I was one of the goofballs on the draft forum who was excited by Bequette's athleticism and size. Many of his skeptics did cite his technique and length.

Typically a guy is either with the program or not from the beginning of the season, Dennard and Francis were exceptions with their appearance out of thin air. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a third here soon. By no means should the play of Trevor Scott be stopping a guy if he gets it. It just appears Bequette doesn't.

From what I remember, WR Ebert ran a 4.42, how is that slow ?

This entire statement is absurd. The guy we need to replace Cunningham was being cut in mini camp according to 98% of the posters in this forum and now you're saying you are either in the program right away or not at all. Tom Brady took 3 snaps as a rookie, Rob Ninkovich had 1 sack his first year with us.

Francis came in with a very strong relationship with Belichick son they were together at Rutgers that is hardly the depths..

I think we should allow Bequette some time before we judge. He has good size, good athleticism, high motor and based on recently winning a practice award he is a hard worker.

Position: DE
Class: Sr
School:
Conference:
Ht., Wt.: 6'6, 265
40 Time: 4.72
Grade: 3.37

BIO: All-American and all-conference selection as a senior, as well as given the Buck Buchanan Award as NCAA I-AA Defensive Player of the Year. Finished the season leading the team with 102/28/17.5 and also defended nine passes. Junior totals included 63/18/10.5 after sophomore numbers of 49/16/6.5.

POSITIVES: Productive small school prospect with a penchant for making plays all over the field. Imposing looking figure that plays with balance, leverage and is rarely off his feet. Drives up the field and tough to handle. Can twist or stunt, quick off the edge and smooth changing direction.

NEGATIVES: Overall game lacks explosion, a closing burst to the ball carrier and strength. At times easily ridden from the play or handled at the point.

ANALYSIS: At first glance, looks like a top prospect based on productivity yet lacks the top upside for the next level. Will find a spot on an active NFL roster if he continues to make plays into the opponents backfield.

PROJECTION: Late Sixth Round

This was Jared Allen's scouting report heading into the draft. Not comparing the two players, but there were a lot of negatives about Allen heading into the draft. Those negatives bumped him into the 4th round. I'm sure there were negatives about Bequette, and I'm not comparing the two, but sometimes all you need is a chance to show what you can do. Bequette hasn't been given that much of a chance so far, Allen was given a starting spot pretty much immediately. You don't get 10 sacks in a college season despite missing games, without having some talent. Too early to write Bequette off, despite some amateur cyber scouts input (no offense Bhelmet).
