I don't agree with the above -- Quebec City was quite accommodating to English speakers on my last visit. French is obviously the primary language but there is plenty of English, both printed and spoken.

Where do you think all of the attractive waitstaff in QC go to get away from the winters? New York, Los Angeles, etc.

Have a great trip and bring a good camera -- the sight lines from the city are really quite amazing.

there is a really nice lounge on the main floor of the Chateau Frontenac Hotel. I am sure the bar will have the game on, but be warned, the drinks are expensive there.

Most Pats games in Canada are available on the CTV Atlantic Network.
That's the channel I have to tune in because here in Ontario, the local CTV station rams the Bills down our throats.

tip for Quebec...a tiny bit of French goes a long way.

If you first speak to someone in French using only English, yes you may get attitude, but if you just give them a simple "bonjour" (hello) then speak English they are much more accomodating.

I think a lot of bars don't even have the volume on for a lot of games, right? I caught a game recently at a pub in New Hampshire and the sound wasn't on. I speak French anyways, so it's not an issue. Although my wife doesn't . . . I'll just have to translate.

I've been to the lounge at the Frontenac before - that's a good idea, I hadn't thought of it. Thanks very much everyone for your suggestions.

And on the subject of English in Quebec City: I've been there half a dozen times now and I assure you can get by on exclusively English. No question that it's French first and French as much as possible, but almost everyone knows a bit of English. And mostly everyone I've encountered, certainly in the service-based sectors, are quite accommodating. Although if you travel outside of the city, you'll need French.

If he goes to "La Cage aux Sports" or "Boston Pizza", they'll put the game on for him, but he won't have the sound, so which language the game is broadcasted in won't matter. If the game is on RDS (french channel), it would be in French, otherwise, it would be in English. RDS broadcasts game every SUnday, but they rarely show the Pats, I watch them on CBS most of the time. Hell, even when the game is on RDS, I watch it on CBS

I live in Quebec City and I'd advised him to go to "La Cage aux Sports". There are 3 or 4 "Cages" in Québec and all of them will show the game if you ask for it, especially since there isn't NHL hockey going on. There are a lot of Patriots fans here in Quebec City.

I live in Montreal. Games are shown on CBS in english (same feed as the US). The game is at 1PM though so some restaurants/pubs might not be open yet. If open, I don't think you'll have a problem getting a few tvs switched to the game but probably won't have sound. In montreal: Station des sports is the best place, I don't know if they have those in Quebec. If not, cage aux sports is your best bet.

shmessy : It's : Ras-I Dowling est fait de verre! Close enough though :P
