Re: Brandon Spikes
He's close but I feel he's more of a 3-4 ILB than he is a 4-3 ILB and he needs to be more athletic. Saying that, mayo has looked as bad at times in coverage and you'd be a homer to ignore it.
I'll back up the thread creator's comments on Wilfork. I think he's become such a fan favourite with his occasional big play and his Patriot mould that people won't criticise him. He's playing a three technique DT like he's a zero technique nose tackle. He's one of the best run stoppers in the league but is one of the least dominant pass rushers we have.
*waits for the 'double team' argument*
Yes, yes...I've used that one before myself but the more I do, the more I find it stupid. The vast majority of fans in here think he deserves his bust in Canton...well go rewatch other guys in there or whom are Canton bound. You think they didn't try to double team Sapp? Go compare numbers...and Wilfork isn't exactly that far off the mark when Sapp retired.
The one thing ill say about Spikes is I think he's as good a run stopper as Mayo. Slightly worse in pass coverage however, Spikes is living up to everything we hoped Mayo would be. A play maker. A difference maker. Mayo is a great leader but he's not quite lived up to the expectation to a certain extent.
He might it be as smart or as close to the leader Mayo is, but he makes a strong argument for our best and most valuable player on defence.
