they were the 2th worst pass defense in NFL history last year they add it a 2th round pick and a jag at safety they did get better but how much better did u think they would get ?

as far as coaching goes they are all being coached by BB and any big name coach that knows BB's system are all HC's so who would they get

this year's defense is no better than last years.....not sure where you are getting the notion that it is

what is Bb's system? both the offense and defense have changed a few times since he has been here.

I think it's clear that there's a issue somewhere in the organization, whether it's in scouting/drafting secondary personnel or in coaching them. Or, it could just be the players themselves, who through injuries/unforeseeable issues ended up not panning out in ways that scouting could not have predicted. I also have faith in Belichick to identify this problem and attempt (successfully, I hope) to fix it when the opportunity arises.

The Pats have given up 15 passing TD's this year which is tops in the league. They also lead the league in pass plays of 40+ yards. On one had the secondary is horrible. On the other hand terrible QB's have had all day to throw the ball.

Something needs to change because what they are doing is NOT working. I think that it starts with the coaching, IMHO. All that kid did in the second half was throw the ball up. He knew that the SECONDARY sucked and so does everyone else.

Didn't see the last TD personnel but bedard points out that they were on base defense in the rice TD with them not playing nickel and not forcing seattle to run the ball more. Kinda opposite of the prevent D they usual play.

Our DB's play a unique style of pass defense; soft coverage, anticipating the pass by watching the receiver and not the ball.......all in the name of bend don't break. It's intentional and has been a part of our defense for several years. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that too many players (if any) become comfortable with this strategy. The chronic breakdown between the safeties and the corners and the almost inevitable PI calls are consequences of the players inability to play within this scheme.
It's not just the players, many enjoy a very successful 1st year here. It's how they're taught to play the position.

It probably has something to do with the team's greatest weakness being the NFL current rules and performance trending toward exploiting that weakness.

You have to be a uniquely talented coach to teach football to Mimes in South Dakota.
