On a side note, Chris Simms may be getting cut by the Bucs. I would love to see the Pats go after him for the #2 QB although he will probably want to go somewhere he can compete for the starting job.
I still think we need to get a veteran back up in here if Cassel can't turn it around. If we do, Belichick is going to have to make a tough decision about Gutieriez. Either he will have to keep for QBs or risk passing him through waivers and get him on the practice squad.
I still think as of right now we do not have a QB on our roster good enough or experienced enough to be a #2 QB.

It would be nice to get a veteran QB to back up Brady, but there's not much out there. I think the jury's still out on Cassell. He's barely had a chance to play a down in the NFL. Maybe he's just plain awful, but maybe BB has seen something different. Otherwise he probably would have brought in a another backup with more experience prior to this year.
Or maybe, as you say, he's regressed and been so bad in TC that alarm bells are going off in the FO. I think he stays as the primary backup for now.
