Default Sunday,October 27th 2002 - last time Pats were below .500

If memory serves me right, this was the last time the Patriots had a record BELOW .500 which is something I think is a record that the team will try thier best Sunday night to keep intact and growing.

It's really amazing that it has been been nearly 10 years to the week that they have ever been under .500 and this gave at Baltimore to me is going to be the biggest test since 2002 to avoid it.

That of course was the season after the SB that had the Pats still hot and at 3-0 until that very weird 4 game losing streak bringing them down to 3-4 and Then missed the postseason.

This next weeks games loser does not end its season, nor is the winner guaranteed a playoff berth.......but I really would like to see that mark in 2002 remain alive after this week.

How many teams can brag about this long a streak?......no other team that I know of...it's impressive.

2010: 1-1 after week to loss to Jets

2009: 1-1 after week two loss to Jets; 3-2 after OT loss at Denver; 7-5 after 22-21 loss at Miami

2008: 2-1 after loss to Dolphins and 3-2 after loss at San Diego

2006: 2-1 after 17-7 home loss to Denver

2004: 6-1 after losing at Pittsburgh in game that Corey Dillon was scratched with hammy during warmups

2003: Pats start 0-1 in the "They Hate Their Coach" loss to the Bills, and then 2-2 after losing to Steve Spurrier and the Washington Redskins

2002: After winning their first three the Pats lose four in a row (21-14 at SD, 26-13 at Miami, 28-10 to Green Bay and 24-16 to Denver) to fall to 3-4; they also lost three weeks later to Oakland to slip to 5-5 and lost back to back games in December to the Titans and Jets to fall back to 8-7

I almost forgot the 2003 0-1 start,I guess it evaded me since the ending of the season went pretty well
...so I guess that week one of the 2003 season officially was the last time NE ever had more losses than wins at any point going into this weeks game....still that's a very long time to have more wins than losses.

Thanks for correcting that.

After you posted that I was curious how close the Pats have been to .500 over the years. I had to cheat and look it up. Most games I remember, some I don't, and then there were a few that I would like to forget.

Regardless, that's a remarkable run when you consider the constraints of the salary cap and free agency. Good topic of conversation and good point; thanks for the reminder. Something for those lining up for a prime spot on the Tobin Bridge to consider how good we have it.
