While watching Air-Brady humiliate teams by the end of the first half has been really fun, it just isn't sustainable. We shouldn't be relying on Brady to put up 400 yards and 6 touchdown passes week after week, game after game, against every defense in the league. More importantly, it gets him hurt!
I don't miss O'Briens offense at all and it's great to have McDaniels back.
Torching opposing defenses with nothing but passes has its entertainment value but it puts our defense on the field too often and leaves us going into the post season with a beat up Tom Brady who, by that time, is no longer 100% because of the beating he takes through out the season by standing in the pocket every possession scanning for receivers with a horde of nasty pass rushers gunning for his career.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this offense take form as we go forward into the season.
What we need is sustained drives. Ridley looks like he can give us this. This running game is going to keep our offense on the field, our defense fresh and off the field, OUR QUARTERBACK HEALTHY, and while we'll still be putting up over 30 points a game, we'll be much better at dominating the time of possession. This is a championship formula. We'll still throw bombs, we'll still have the most elite passing attack in the National Football league, we'll be a tall order to stop in the red zone, but our offense won't be off the field after 4 or 5 15 to 20 yard passes for a touchdown, leaving our defense to get stuck on overtime duty and gas every game.
We can do so much this year. It's really exciting. We can eat up the clock, we can torch teams through the air. I think after everything starts to click in post-Thanksgiving football, we'll really be able to do whatever the hell we want.
Unlike the very over rated Packers, our offense isn't designed to just pad stats and look good against weak football teams - our offense is designed to be incredibly difficult to stop. Elite quarterback, weapons all around, complete unpredictability, very dynamic, and the ability to control the ball and have a much greater say in the time of possession on top of it all.
Everyone calling for Belichick's head last year, after an over achieving Patriot team was lead to the Superbowl on the back an injured #12, can enjoy their plate of crow. The last pieces of the puzzle have been put into place and it's going to be a very tall order for the AFC to keep us out of the Superbowl this year.
I know some people don't want to hear that this early (don't worry, I knocked on wood), but the facts are the facts, and the fact is THIS is the offensive style that will produce rings. This is what did it for us during the Dynasty years, and this is what was missing during 2007.
As always, the sports-media will be stuck in last season until week #3 or #4, but before long, mark my words, they'll come around, they'll start talking, and the lemming fans around the country will start nervously repeating it. NFL fans from shore to shore are going to realize that the Patriots are once again the undisputed lords of the AFC and there's not a damn thing they'll be able to do about it.

Yeah, we'll at least be a top ten unit this year defensively, maybe even top 5.
It's going to be great for Wilfork now that he's surrounded by other capable pass rushers. If teams have other people to worry about and can't just double team him all day and all night, i'm expecting him to make quarterback-pancakes a lot this season. Our front seven is full of play makers.
More over, with sustained, long, methodical offensive drives, this defensive squad is going to be able to take the field fresh a lot and that should produce a lot of 3 and outs for us.

While I do agree that TB shouldn't be carrying this O on his back and throwing for 400+ yards a game, he's still going to be the nucleus of the offense. If we want to get back to hoisting the Lombardi, our O-line has to do our job effectively. Though I do like what I saw from the D and the run game yesterday.
1 potential problem: What if Joshy gets another HC offer at the end of the season?
(You said championships)
I highly doubt JM will get a job offer at the end of the year. And even if he did, I don't think he'd take it. This is just like what happened to BB. And you know what, I have strong feeling that when BB retires and JM succeeds him, JM will not be handing in his resignation on a paper towel.
