"Not only is he a factor in rushing the passer, his run stopping may be even better. He is all over the place, even pursuing from behind. Stats don't show the whole story either, as he often helped stop a run without getting the tackle. He was a big part of Chris Johnson being held to just 4 yards and shutting out the Titans run game. "
So true, Chandler holds that edge stiff, forcing the run plays inside to the pursuring backers and DT's. I forget the play where CJ2K got blown up by Love, CJ2K literally stopped suddenly after he ran into Love, he literally stopped right there, no movement, nothing. All of that was forced by
"The Condor".
"The Condor" - Long (6'6"), Lean in the waist, "Thick" where needed, upper hips, ass. Perfect arm thickness to accentuate the endless wing-span reach. The age of the "The Condor" is just starting to cast it's shadow on the NFL. I'm sure Rex crapped himself when he clicked on the ESPN/NBC Sunday night Pats/Titans highlights.

People seem to finally be realizing how smart this kid is about his responsibilities. Athleticism and talent only go so far. I remember reading ad nauseum how raw he was coming out of college and how he'd be a project and blah blah. I never bothered to read into any of it, as I always felt it was one person just rehashing what they read or heard from another person. The kid has smarts to go with the talent, and he's not done developing by a long shot.
I suspect and hope that in time he will make the JPP comparisons hold true. I still don't believe he's the freakish athlete that JPP is, but he comes close. I think that he will become a smarter football player than JPP, though. He'll develop an awareness of game situations and play recognition that I don't believe JPP has shown thus far (granted I don't watch every Giants game). He definitely has the very bright future and, with BB's tutelage, he could become the very best at his position.
Love what I've seen from Chandler Jones so far. He definitely has a ton of upside and basically forced BB to start him with his impressive play from the very beginning of camp and throughout preaseason. For Jones to do this well against a premier tackle like the Titan's Roos... well I feel bad for the NFL average tackles that will have to face him because I predict him going off in those games.
Sooner or later teams will have to start gameplanning for Jones. That is when he is going to see a lot of double teams and will be a true test of the rookie. How will he deal with the frustration of being doubled on almost every play? The good news is that will free up someone else on the front 7 to make a play.

And that's the playmaker the Patriots have lacked for many years now. That's what has frustrated fans for so long in the draft . . . players that we all thought would command this kind of attention and game planning being passed on over and over by BB. This year, he traded up twice for players that he knew would be playmakers and also fit his system. We have the studs now and the right coach for them.
On a somewhat related note, I literally just finished watching SB36 and Will Mac was doubled pretty much the whole game . . . just sayin' . . .

Doubling up on Jones means you single cover Wilfork (equals happy Wilfork). Double cover both and now you are just about out of blockers. I love the potential of this defense.
Profootball Weekly has him as the #1 defensive player on their rookie of the year meter (4th overall for all rookies:
Quote:
4. Patriots DE Chandler Jones (1, 21) Last week’s ranking: 6
Jones had five tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, which fellow rookie LB Dont’a Hightower scooped up for a touchdown. Two of Jones’ tackles were stops for no gain.
The one thing I'll say is that it sucks that these kinds of things are always more skewed to favor offensive players because they put up more statistical numbers than defensive players. I feel his overall performance and the impact that Jones had on the game was far superior to that of Luck. I know Luck was the first pick and touches the ball on every snap and all that, but I feel Jones' play was a huge reason for why the overall defense looked so much more improved and tenacious than in years past. If anything, my top four would look like this:
1. RG3
2. Doug Martin (the guy really did ball out)
3. Chandler Jones (the guy really did ball out - tee hee)
4. Andrew Luck (he put up a lot of yards passing, but he was sacked three times and threw three INTs)
Also, Blackmon should not be in the top ten at all. His play was not nearly impressive, with the young WR only catching three passes. His better days are ahead of him, as he is too talented not to be a force later on (if Blaine can get him the ball). However, Hightower was all over the field and played in many different positions. He was heads up enough to grab the fumble and run it in as well. Again, this is a case of the list being skewed in favor of offensive players. Hightower had a much bigger impact on the game than Blackmon did for Jacksonville. He should have made the list, IMO.
Lastly, I know we all hate the Jets, but Stephen Hill should have been way ahead of Blackmon and Trent Richardson. I know they were drafted way ahead of him and all, but c'mon, that kid out performed both of them by a mile and a half.
